I have everything pretty much working now on the Qcon ProX/XS/C4 consistently. And have updated the mappings for my workflow. The sends page works great and is perfectly synced.
Somehow I was able to get the C4 working well also. I say somehow because I spend about 2 hours trying to get it working. I didn't get it working, and had to stop for a recording session. But suddenly about halfway through the session things started appearing on the C4, and now plugs will show up when I select a track. AWESOME! I've not got some very useful things mapped and they work pretty consistently. But, I have a recording track template, one of the tracks is set for recording and has some mapped plugs on it. When I select this track, none of the plugs show up. But if I duplicate the track, then both will suddenly work with the C4. It seems like it won't map to the C4 if selecting the LAST track in a project.
Here are some more questions/comments. I know this is still in development but just some things I noticed that I don't think were mentioned before:
1. I get some weird characters on the C4, random cells and seemingly random characters when there is nothing on that cell. Not a lot, just a few. Wondering if it's related to the "ghost" track level meters I mentioned before?
2. C4 also does not always clear the display when closing a project, similar to the mixer.
3. On the Qcon, sometimes some of the buttons don't light up (play, stop) but the buttons still work. Sometimes the clock display is blank or freezes. Sometimes the select light stays on even when the track is not selected. Sometimes I can clear the "ghost" tracks and select light by banking through those channels, but not always.
Geoff, one last thing I would like to ask about, if that's ok.
The Qcon ProX has a master fader, but also has a master LED level meter. This meter is not like the others, it has L/R meters (stereo) where the others are just a single meter. That master meter does not light currently, and it doesn't light for any of the csi plugins....or really any other DAWs for that matter.
Also, this Qcon ProX has a second display, also with 2 lines. Currently it does nothing, but it would be cool if we can take advantage of it.
If this was possible, what would you need? I am in contact with support at Icon and I think I can get any info, just let me know
|
Great news !!
As far as the Master Fader, if you can get Icon to give you the native midi map for the meters and displays, we can probably do something.
I've seen ghosting when there duplicate mappings, can you isolate it a bit more ?
I think there is a bug with the C4 display on the last track... as you have verified.

duplicate mappings in the rst? axt? How about when there are maps to buttons that don't exist, is that an issue? The rst has some MCU buttons that the Qcon doesn't have, like most of the vpot assigns, some others. And I have repurposed some buttons as needed, I will check. I don't think the axt has anything duplicated but I'll double check. I think I recall that if I did have a duplicate somewhere it would cause the button light to flicker or something weird that caught my attention to check.
Also I forgot to ask, is there yet a way to switch between plugins that are shown on the C4 when a track is selected? Or not yet. Currently shows all the plugs on that track at once, so some maps override others.
Also, anytime I select a track with a plugin window open, it closes the plugin window.
...I feel like there was some other behavior I wanted to mention but I don't recall right now. Anyway, I'll try to get that info from Icon.

Ha, ok then. BTW thanks for the fxt lines, totally not that bad, just time consuming and tedious, but very much worth it.

ok, how about touch select? is that possible as of now?
there is this line in the axt: FaderTouch TrackTouch
what does that do?
and, is it bad if there are two different ways for the same action via the surface? in this case, select = trackuniqueselect and fadertouch = trackuniqueselect

I'm using this a lot now so here are a couple other things I noticed.
I mentioned that the displays remain when you close a project, both on the mixer and the C4. But, when I close Reaper with a project still open, everything goes away....except the time display.
Also, I use Heda's Track Inspector. When I select a track from the mixer, it doesn't change the inspector. Works with the stock mcu plugin.
Confirmed that the last track will not display on the C4, my work around is to insert a blank track at the end.
Buttons with FB and assigned Reaper actions stay lit. I think this was mentioned before but I can't find that post. So, for example, the automation buttons stay lit, hard to tell what mode is what from the mixer.

Easy, just add a line like this:
FaderTouch TrackTouch
FaderTouch TrackSelect
Now, any tracks you touch will select/deslect.
If you want only one just use this instead:
FaderTouch TrackTouch
FaderTouch TrackUniqueSelect

Yup these are all non-show-stopper pre-alpha bugs, will get fixed a bit down the road, likely after we see what folding in OSC does to us

Not sure, was inundated with friends/relatives lately (in a good way), and I'm off to visit other relatives for Canadian Thanksgiving in a week or so, after that, I'll be able to dig in deeper, and will have a better idea then.

New build is up: https://stash.reaper.fm/v/33037/CSI%20pre%20alpha.zip
@poetnprophet -- please try this and let me know what happens...
In the .rst add these 2 lines:
MasterChannelMeterLeft QConProXMasterVUMeter
MasterChannelMeterRight QConProXMasterVUMeter
and in the .axt add these 2 lines:
MasterChannelMeterLeft MasterTrackOutputMeter 0
MasterChannelMeterRight MasterTrackOutputMeter 1

Hi Geoff, took a quick try, no master meter. I copied the lines of code and added them, in the rst I added to the channel section...was that right? I also tried outside the channel section, and it didn't work that way either. In the axt I just added them at the end.
Also, I only copied over the new .dll file and not the entire folder set since I have my folders and custom files now. Is that right?
If it means anything, I am now getting TWO ghost channels that are identical and adjacent in the metering, but still don't seem to correspond to any particular channel signal...although it/they are "on beat" if that makes sense.
edit: I do have 1 or two projects that never produce the ghost channel, if that means anything to you?

No, the lines should be outside any Channels.
Is it possible the ghost channels are left and right master ?
What's different about the projects that don't have ghost channels ?
Yup, you should only need the dll...

Ok I'll try again later and move the lines outside the channel again.
I want to say that yes, but i'll try again and verify...maybe a pic or video will help.
Can't seem to find anything different about the projects. They use the same template to start, same recording/mixing process in terms of routing, plugins, track names, etc.
I also noticed that whenever I press buttons on the surface I get a full meter on a channel for the button press.

still no luck after moving the code outside the channel section. Same behavior really.
Here's a quick video where i bank by 1 to the right with the meters on the left lighting with no signal.
https://youtu.be/fJYFFLTSEyA
It also does it with real tracks that have no signal. When signal is there it is correct but as soon as the signal is gone it's the ghost meter again.
This is slightly different than before, which after banking through it sort of cleared the ghost meters...usually. Now they are there, seems like stuck on tracks 9/10 as this surface(s) is setup.

Thanks for the video, makes it perfectly clear.
Could you please post the contents of your CSI.ini, .rst, and .axt files.

Ahhh, I see where things might be going wrong.
Temporarily reduce the ProX number of channels to 8 from 9.
The master fader will not work, but hopefully you will see working VU meters on the master channel.
Let me know what happens.

Ok, I went from 9 to 8...hope that was the right way. Still no luck. The master channel is back on the mixer and on a regular channel it works but nothing on the master meter, and of course I can't bank it to the fader.
hmmm, also just noticed that the ghost meters are gone in this way

Ok, looks like we need to think of a MasterChannel/MasterChannelEnd syntax to be able to take care of all the different ways surfaces deal with Master Channels...

Hmmm...
I think the presence of a Master Channel should automatically mean that the Master Track is always pinned to the Master Channel.
The Master Track will always be present even if hidden on the GUI.
The Master Track will not participate in banking.
What say you folks ?

Are there any reasons at all for wanting to have the master as part of the regular channels? I can't think of any...

Only if you're using a surface that doesn't have a dedicated master fader and you want to make one (using one of the regular channels)
If a Master channel is present, I completely agree with Geoff's assessment- It should automatically be pinned to the Master Track, not bank and remain active even when hidden in the TCP/MCP.

Is it possible, and would it help, to make a check box in the surface settings, for "stick Master channel"?

Hi,
I am not sure if you are aware that DrivenByMoss4Reaper has full support for the icon Qcon ProX incl. the master LEDs and second display.
The latest version also supports up to 3 extenders (you can also combine any device which supports the MCU protocol).
Look here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=1988209
Cheers!

Of course it's the right place to ask but:
Which XTouch ? There is the "Mini", the "Compact", the "USB", the "Extender" and the "One" ... and combinations of those can make sense (I have a "Compact" and might add a "One" some day).
Which functions / workflow do you want to see supported ?

Hey Moss, yes i have been following, I know there's a new update but right now I don't have the time to test and acclimate to a new surface profile. I will try to check it out soon. It sounds great and I also know the support team with Icon/Mixware are hoping it works well because they have a link to it on their support page for the ProX.

Which functions / workflow do you want to see supported ?

Hmm it's the one with 9 faders and the large knob...not the One or extender...my music store has it listed only as the x touch

I think that's the Universal?
It was on my list before I got the ProX
