Hi Yáll,
Forgive me - I'm just entering the world of WALTER.
Where do I find the WALTER sdk and the rules_for_default.txt file?
I have gone to http://www.REAPER.fm/sdk/WALTER/WALTER.php but I get a 404 not found.
Thanks,

That URL is case sensitive. Make it all lower case the file will come up.

starting lines
Hello everybody.
My first post, here.
Can anyone point me to the meaning / sintax of the starting lines of the rtconfig ?
I have read the Walter manual and done a search here but can't seem to find it.
I noticed that most of the lines are a set of variables and since they have a "_", they are "extra variables" but I'm not able to place them in context with the rest of the file
things like
"mcp_vupeakheight 4
mcp_mastervupeakheight 4
mcp_altmeterpos 0
use_overlays 1
transport_showborders 1
tcp_vol_zeroline 85000000
tcp_pan_zeroline 67000000
mcp_vol_zeroline 00000000
mcp_pan_zeroline 00000000
trans_speed_zeroline 99999999"

I noticed the guide is now updated as of August 10, and is up to 50 some pages! WT, thank you very much for making WALTER a lot more accessible to us non-coders. I have no need to do a whole new theme, but I've been able to make those tiny tweaks to the default theme that suit my particular setup. I'm sure the guide made that possible for me. So, thanks.

Woooah! That I call a silent update. And it says "Don't Panic" in soothing big letters on the cover .
Off to some reading. I'll tell you later how ugly and uncool it is, WT .
Big thanks WT for making the guide and also big thanks Kevin for the pointer to the update.
Say, shouldn't it be highly praised on Cockos.com Reaper resource page?

The colors are all wrong, its too dark and its not as intuitive as I had hoped.
[Oh, sorry. I thought this was about a new theme or something. My mistake.]
Thanks WT.

Kunda, you are a pillock! Keep up the good work.
I only came here to see if there was any point n me even opening the WALTER guide, but if it says 'Dont Panic' & WT wrote it, I guess I'll be safe enough up to around page four....
*gulp*

Looks like WT sneaked in another update - Oct 14.
Is the reason this is still in the pre-release forum is that the guide itself is still considered a "pre-release?" I can understand that, but it sure seems like it's plenty good enough to help a lot of people get over the WALTER hump, and imo should reside as a sticky in the Themes forum. I wonder if it would ever make it as another part of the actual User's Guide as well. Just thinkin' out loud...
@WT, thanks again for this manual.

We tend to use it to someone who deliberately acts foolish for humouristic effect. And generally when you agree it was funny (as in this case)
When it is used ABOUT a third party,(Him? What a bleeding pillock!) it becomes er insulting again. See also Prat Twat and Berk.*
Canada, USA, etc and England - lands united AND divided by a single language.
*Not to be confused with Prat Twat and Pillock, the well known firm of Glasgow solicitors.

Should I set up a poll?
I'll get my coat....
P.S. I finally downloaded and OPENED this scary book. Taking it to France with me for 2 weeks with no internet access...

I've wondered why it isn't there either? Is there a reason that it's still in the pre release section?

I'm a bit out of touch with WALTER developments, but now that the TCP is heavily customizable and we have different ways to access & represent things like folders & pan width, I'm wondering are any of these things possible?
1) Adding a UI element representing the MIDI "Map Input To Channel" selection (for those of us using multi-channel MIDI to see & route output channels)
2) Adding a UI element representing number of track channels (for those working with >2 audio channels on a track)
3) Adding a UI element for Master/Parent send status
If not, I shall request (should that be done in the normal FR place, I wonder?)
Thanks for any advice on this from WALTERing experts!

Just to be picky, WALTER doesn't per se allow the adding of anything, its just about controlling the appearance and interaction of certain Reaper elements. Your questions:
1) No sir.
2) Er... well, you get as many meter strips as there are track channels, which is automatically (i.e. its non-WALTERable) populated by Reaper. The number of track channels can be used as a variable within WALTER to affect change of existing elements, but not in a way that will print a number of track channels. Well... you could make a strip of numbers out of a sacrificial element, and then mask it to the appropriate number, but it would be very complex and require some element to be re-purposed for an epic hack. Hmmm. See me after school!
3) That's already there, its a state of the IO button.

Themer's guide updated today.

Thanks for that info WT! I had thought WALTER contained definitions for some GUI elements that were not displayed in the default theme, but could be added by themers.
In reverse order
3) I hadn't noticed that this status was part of the I/O display - need to tweak my theme to show it, but pleased to know it's there already!
2) What I meant by that was a textbox/dropdown showing the number of track channels the track has - a bit like how the input assignment is shown. It's one of those "handy to see at a glance" things.
1) This is the one I'd put as my "number 1" WALTER want, in that case...
Since the mapped MIDI channel is already there in context menu for inputs, the functionality already exists so being to add a dropdown or textbox on the TCP for this would be so helpful when working with multichannel VSTs.
Does that mean it's a general FR or a WALTER FR?

Its a general FR, because its new functionality, though obviously WALTERability from day1 would also be a required if these were to be part of the track panels, since they are predominantly WALTER defined.

Is it possible to change the color of the arrangement background through walter? I guess it must be but i didn't found the settings to do it. All i found was from element finder "track backround" on odd and even tracks but nothing in rtconfig (i also searched by the color code).
Also i would like to change the green-ish default color from the fx list/search window and other windows, is this possible?
Later edit: it seems that the color codes are in the .reapertheme file coded in Hex (3881787 = 3B3B3B).

Modified Theme
How amazing is Reaper? Mind Boggling for sure. I am also in awe of those who can use Walter. It's way beyond my comprehension but I know what I want.
I use track mute and solo all the time when laying tracks, but pan really only when finalising a mix. I would prefer mute and solo buttons to be be much bigger and located where the pan control is. The pan control could be much smaller and located almost anywhere else on the panel. Has anyone seen a mod like this????
Also, like everyone else on the planet, I would like the track volume meter to display and hold the max level that has occured.
Has anyone seen modified themes that do either of these things??

Cool I don't understand the quoted sentence (bottom of the first column in page 6). "Polish Notation" seems stuck in there oddly; maybe it's a typo?
"I recommend this because so many people who have struggled with learning WALTER, and given up, Polish Notation have started this way "

Where is your "default_layouts.txt" file?
Where is your "default_layouts.txt" file? In my case it’s in the “Plugins” folder (???) in REAPER’s installation directory! This doesn’t seem to be the right place, because in the WALTER Themers Guide other locations are specified: quote page 6 “Windows : C:\ProgramFiles\REAPER4\InstallData\Data\default_l ayouts.txt” (no default_layouts.txt file available) and quote page 46 “In Documents and Settings/<name>/Application Data/REAPER/Data you will find default_layouts.txt”(this directory doesn’t exist).I’m using Windows 7 x64.

You have to search around. My rtconfig.txt was found in the Roaming\Data\Toolbar_icons folder.
x64 Windows 7...
Almost forgot.
Thanks WT as this is a great way to unite and share great ideas for themeing.

Default theme REAPER 5
Hi guys!
Sorry for my bad English.
WALTER to study and could not, therefore, appeal to professionals ..
Is it possible in the default theme REAPER 5 to do so, that would be at coloring of items of audio - stained not all of items, but only wavepeakes?

Problem editing rtconfig file?
Hi. I have been reading tons of forums and have been studying WALTER: A themer's guide. I am trying to create/edit a theme and every time I change something in the rtconfig file and try to load my new version of the theme I get an ugly weird looking theme? I am a noob but I have messed with the basics of editing themes via theme editor in Preferences. Any help would be appreciated

If you change the name of the folder your images are in, you have to open the .reapertheme file and change a line down at the bottom to match it. Otherwise, Reaper will say "hey, I can't find images for this theme!" and use the Reaper v1 images instead.

Modifying Transport centering
Hi All,
I have a theme I am really happy with. I would like to center transport controls and interested in what kind of work is involved to do this. Could a relative newb achieve this with some effort?
