Default slapping 2nd string of bass, weaker?

4 string - E standard tuning

when slapping with thumb the A string...does it sound weaker than when slapping the E string?

i find it much easier to get a stronger sound from E estring...or am i doing something wrong

thanks

I've been playing bass for nearly 50 years and have never been of a mind to use slapping. I like this quote from Mike Senior's Mixing Secrets book:

Quote:
As a first example, let’s consider a slap-bass part. Now, as everybody knows, the best processing for slap bass is that button labeled “Mute,” but let’s assume for the moment that this option has been ruled out.
With that said, I'll step aside and let somebody provide a serious response.

You can hit it harder, but it will still have a different tone just due to the difference in diameter. I found that a compressor pedal helps a lot in evening out the tone, but you will still need to work to hit them in way that gives you a somewhat consistent volume.

I don`t slap much but did persevere back in the eighties g3tting swo I could do it.

It is 100% down to working at doing it.

Just woodshed like you are never going to stop & with luck & the occasional lightbulb moment you will get there. Uneven volume between strings is mostly down to accuracy with your thumb. Of course, it helps to have a really good setup done on your bass and the right gauge strings.

However....

THE ONE THING i COULD GET DOWN RIGHT WAS GETTING ENOUGH BOTTOM END ON SLAPPED NOTES.
