Default Anyone using or interested in using Tascam us428 as a control surface

The older Reaper_us428.dll never really worked quite right and has stopped working completely for me. So I am writing a Python app to take midi from the US428 and translate to OSC to Reaper. Willing to make available but my employer requires approval for such things. I'll do it if others are interested, else it's been a fun couple of day project for me and gives me a fully customized solution that does just what I need.

I'm listening...

Don't own a 428, but I do know a couple of owners, whose machine has been gathering dust. And I'm always in for reducing the electronics waste pile, so...

Default Here's the current state

I have the recording/mixing controls working.

8 faders, master fader
Mute, Solo, Select, Record Arm
Rew, F Fwd, Stop, Play, Record
Control wheel does scrub
Assign the Pan control to a channel and control it, and change assigned channels
A feature/quirk of Reaper, but if you assign to one of a set of selected channels the pan control affects all their pan controls. Probably rarely what is desired, though I can see a way to work around that in the SW if it becomes a usability issue.

I am currently working on soft takeover for the faders.

I'll likely add the following over the next couple of days:
- Support for 32 faders in banks of 8 managed by the SW using the bank button on the us428. So controller will control 1-8, 9-16, 17-24 or 25-32 at a time, and hence the need for good soft takeover mechanism.

- Change the pan so that it temporarily overrides multiple selections and affects only one channel at a time

- Using function keys to select scroll and zoom mode to the control wheel.

- Using the EQ knobs for something.

I haven't thought about doing anything at all with effects

One thing I can't fix is that the last driver Tascam released was for Windows Vista. I'm running Win 7 and it installed OK with Vista compatibility settings

I know this is an old thread, but I just built a WinXP based DAW and I'm using a Tascam us-428 with it. If you happen to still have the file I'd love to give it a go on my machine to see if it works. Right now I have Sonar 8 PE installed and the control surface works great with it, but I've always had a soft spot for Reaper and I'd like to be able to use them together.

Default Retired my us428

As of the latest Windows update, none of tricks to load the the US428 driver are working, so that's the end of that.
