Full Midi File Meta Event support needed
Specifically Key Signature.
Why can't I set the key signature of a midi track for export?
ref: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=110557
Use Case:
Using Reaper to create midi files for use by other programs. Key signature is needed by them as it is a critical piece of information needed for all sorts of file analysis and scoring.
Please can we get full meta event support.
Currently there is no way to access "track 0" meta events as they seem to be created automatically by Reaper on export. We need a dialog that can access these on a per midi track basis (if you export single tracks) including setting of the key signature. Or you could just have one project settings "Midi meta event properties" that can work for single or multi-track midi exports.
ty!

krahosk, I think you're right that a makeover is in order.
What I want is smaller keys since there is no need for them to take up that much space, a nice, small, dockable filter, and when my fr up there^ is implemented, a way to not show the transport bar, because it will have nothing I need.

click TRACKS to hide, click TOOLS to hide, as the arrows mention. I want a smaller keyboard too!

Gotcha, I know our needs overlap, I just wanted to give my personal list because it was slightly different so the devs had some more feedback.

Yes but in the main window, the tracks are listed on the left. It's for cohesion. Maybe Sonar left you an impression, but their choice was arbitrary.

I still like it more on the right side, even disregarding Sonar. I don't care about TCP when I'm doing MIDI editing.

You still have to have a reason, and ultimately if you do, we'll check together if it's valid. Whim attempts are not receivable.

Schwa had mentioned making the List Window dockable from within
the MIDI Editor window some time after v4.0 was released.
I wish we could dock it on both the left & right side as desired.
There's no need for a debate over which side you want it
if the option to dock to BOTH sides is possible.
Or make it so you can dock on the left, right, top and bottom.
I hope this feature is added soon. Resizing windows is
cumbersome when writing music.
Also, Sonar has a cool option where you click a little grey square.
This grey square locks the selected MIDI Item so it will not move.
Think of it like locking Media Items in REAPER but for MIDI notes
WITHIN a Media/MIDI Item.
See it here:
http://media.soundonsound.com/sos/se...lediting.l.jpg
Look on the right side of the above picture.
You'll see a yellow, red & green box.
Next to the colored boxes, you see a while box.
The white box on the right turns grey when you click it.
This white/grey box locks notes on a MIDI Item so they will not move.
(White = unlocked. Grey = locked.)

It's not a whim, it's a preference. It just doesn't look nice nor functional to me the way you mocked it up. Too much weight is placed on the left side and too much empty space remains to the left of CC lanes in your mockup. I prefer things to be more balanced. If each toolbar is dockable all over the place wherever the user wants, that would be good enough.

That would be nice, dockable anywhere.
So the ME would have a:
- dockable track list window only (I mean without the MIDI channels as it is now)
- dockable "tools" window (grid, note, scale, mode and MIDI channel selection)
These dockable elements could be placed at the same palces as the toolbars can. Same rule: left, right, bottom, top.
- new revamped CC selection pane.

Ideally, filter window should be dockable as well (and expanded with new functionality, there are FRs for that), and all the MIDI toolbars too.

This would be great for me:
You'd maybe gain a whole nother octave with that stuff out of the way. That would make a serious different in the amount of navigating I have to do and thus the overall ease of working.

True. That would gain another octave -- and a couple of measures with those narrow piano keys.
As you demonstrate, we don't really need another transport bar in the ME too. Removing that is a space-saver and avoids redundancy.
Quite so: the toolbar strip can be docked - and removed - in the main screen. It's useful. Why not in the ME screen as well?
The ME GUI needs some flexibility like the main track screen.

I'd like for Channel dropdown, event info and hovered time position displays to be on the BOTTOM, not on the TOP where MIDI toolbar is:
It simply makes more sense, and adds more room for toolbar buttons!

Yes, this has been mentioned more than a few times. There's all kind of room for it on the bottom and it's hard to understand why it was put on the top in the first place.

ME transport is not redundant, it can be independent of the main transport and allows a type of per-item 'soloing'.
That some people use, and would be quite pissed if it were removed ; )

Yeah, it has it's uses. One nice thing is that if you hit the start button it takes you to the beginning of the item rather than the start of the song. But I don't use that. It would be nice if you could get rid of it just when you didn't need that. Maybe it could be optionally off when docked, but present when moved to it's own window.

Like the main screen: Transport can be hidden, toolbar can be hidden. I understand the MIDI transport has its use for per item control, but I don't use it either.

Has this ever been pointed out: the chords selection is in the "scale" drop down menu. It's a different thing and should have a menu on its own.

I would like to be able to extend notes into other notes both ways. Now you can only do this in one direction:
EDIT. The same thing when dragging the note instead of extending.

I just posted this FR.
I'd love/need that feature in Reaper, so useful when working with MIDI :
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=113621
Mapping/MIDI Macros would be fantastic as well.
I'd happily ditch Live whenever both (Min/max and Macros) are possible in Reaper.

A simple one to fix i suspect (Although probably not high up the list haha)
Can we have a separate font for the MIDI editor timeline please so it doesn't look like ass when you use a small font

Hi,
i know that we have ReaMidiControl.
But i really like to have envelopes in midi piano roll view to edit CC's and Velocity ( the velocity envelope should be only based on square/stepped points )
what do you think ?

I know this is a 1.5y post, but were there steps towards these issues? MIDI notes not snapping to visible grid (especially during inline editing) are driving me nuts.

STILL SOME BASIC MIDI ISSUES- 2013
1) Splitting midi items currently creates two separate notes if there are notes overhanging the right boundary. WHHHHY! Note should just stay in original box, with original duration. SURELY!!!
2) Please enable mulitple editing of items in piano roll without having to glue items first or click about.
3) In piano roll, NEED to have ability to set grid to triplet values (in the dropdown box)
4) In piano roll, REALLY NEED ability to easily deselect a particular note from a collection (eg. after a drag over a batch of notes and you catch one you don't want)
I'm no programmer, so I know I sound pompous, but these are SERIOUS issues with Reaper. PLEASE GUYS sort it out. They've been around for far far too long now

2. Coming soon
3. Select "straigh/dotted/triplet/swing" in the corresponding dropdown box
4. Hold the mouse modifier key you assigned to add notes to selection to (CTRL by default IIRC) remove it from selection by clicking it

I am also curious about 1)
another question:
the action in MIDI editor "View: Toggle auto-view-scroll on playback"
also affects the autoscroll of the main arrangement window.
question: Is there a way to be able to turn off the auto scroll for the midi editor but maintain it in the main window?

Many of you probably know this already, but you can get something close to the behavior you want by turning off the option "Allow trim of MIDI items when splitting" in Preferences -> Media -> MIDI.
Of course, then splitting items doesn't split up the MIDI data. But at least it's not cutting notes in two! (which I can't imagine anyone wanting apart from as an occasional novelty effect)

No, turning off that option does not help much.
It is not even close to the preferred behavior.
Notes still stop playing at the end of item and new notes start in the beginning of item right at split point. All this means that playback is screwed up after splitting. And it is impossible to get correct playback in looped MIDI items.
