Recorded as abstract
https://soundcloud.com/sdow/century-echo 14 07 2019 Update *track removed
It's not Bach, more Dettifoss waterfall (but no Gullfoss used here my dudes) mixed/mastered in virtual acoustic darkness (Superlux HD668B cans re-branded as Samson SR850)so I was hoping for feedback on that....not the "music" or lack of it (you could say musically non existent? non-melodious? If that is your experience I do not care) ,so just a sound critique.
To simplify my words ---> *Does this play on your system or does it fail?
Is high frequency content lost? No, there was nothing much in the piece anyway, virtually nothing above 3.5/4 Khz
I welcome any words regardless

The low end has that mid-bass bloaty feeling to me. A few dB of lowish-Q shelf-cut around 350Hz should help to balance it back out a bit

Thank you for assessment.
Considering focal area here is mostly mid-bass, I need to rethink.
I trust this opinion and would also value more input.
Would auto mastering LANDR service or equivalent process a useful print or would it be pointless to try ,because it is not programmed to just interpret such genre-less sound?

hmm, if you have access to the service, you may as well give it a go. From what I've heard of them (which, granted, isn't all that much), all of the algorithmic mastering services seemed pretty subtle and pleasant until they need to push for level. So it's possible they could work really well for you if minor balance tweaks are all you need.
Personally if I already had the access to one I would try it out, and then if I prefer what I hear compared to my own, I'd try to mimic it with my own processing. And if I don't like what I hear, I could also try to figure out what it's doing so I can avoid that in my own attempt. In that sense, these services can potentially be a pretty okay educational tool that you might get some decent value out of either way.

Good to have you casting some light in this direction.I have set a low shelf -3db at 350Hz with wide Q
I do hear an improvement (sounds more open to me) so I'm going to re-upload and bring this experiment to a close.
I think I have nudged the output level slightly higher to compensate for alterations.
Thanks once again for comment
I will get some monitors

I didn't know there are production rules for drone ambient. Sounds like a night in an abandoned rail yard.

Check out my latest release ,it could be what is playing on your headphones(never ending loop)while you are sitting in dirty railyard at night.

I also work hard to fake the impression I know what I'm doing!
I was once involved in establishing a recording studio(I was very nearly electrocuted to death but am still here for some reason )
Thank you for thinly veiled side splitting humour .Seriously...I love you man.
maybe I could build small cabin in Polish forest? they won't let me will they?

It's allright if you can find any free space amongst all the Ukrainian migrants I guess.
Yeah, how the mastering service knows what you're after? Bone shaking bass levels may be an artistic choice for example, ambient like this is half music half weather anomaly.

Inner space has become the only free space left but that is not really free either because if organism hosting free space cannot sustain because it can't afford the future then inner space dies too.

Problem can be a pressure situation or moment of stupid combined with unfamiliar equipment and someone might be "going live","joining with the circuits" at a deep level."Have fun! but do take care with electricity everyone, life can be good".
Barry,at least I would not have gone away with a venue audience watching.
Not funny.

Timothy, thanks for report.....it is looking like I was not too far from where I wanted to be,close but still no way to produce like that.I monitored in mono quite often and flipped between several loudspeaker approximations on JB Isone Pro (free) with room both on/off, Span (in it's default mode).I did upload a re-master but something went wrong and no one was playing it (ROFL) so I have taken it down but there was slight improvement noticeable through my cans after low shelf. You will know that it's the summing plus gain that defeats the workflow,if one can work super quick to nail down a sound it's best...go back and check/fine tune it later.Still interested in your findings through speakers.
I have measured the dimensions of my fail at the Royal Conservatory of Failure and it's not looking good.

Oh, that's a shame, it sounds like I would have enjoyed listening to this piece.
My loss... I should have visited this sub-forum earlier...

Cheers!

This one's like paddling towards the sunday mass through a lake of melted Commodore 64s. On a cold day.

Yes I would agree with that imagery entirely. When I paddled, the fumes from all those electricals had me at mass well before I actually arrived.
Thank you

A most interesting soundscape with equally interesting sound design going on. Kind of reminds me, in places, of some of the strangeness you would find on very early Tangerine Dream stuff.
Thanks for sharing this one
cheers

I performed VAZ patch better on the first take, colour contrast, rhythm and timbral low fq madness but stupid accident with file and it was gone. Was tired but tried again, patch is controlling two synth with mouse so yeah always some uncertainty and possibilities for the unitentional....just kept that second print).
Reaper is the Host and the Audio recorder here/no midi,no audio files....it's more akin to performing patches live.
I appreciate your kind words Andy (Synkrotron)
Thanx !
