Mute automation include sends of children
So, I have a parent folder which happens to be claps, and I have subs for it, which are in multiple sets, with multiple different sends to a reverb, for different depth.
I'd like to use mute automation, to mute all the claps, so I'd like to put that on the parent claps folder. Problem in the children are still sending to the reverb. What's the easiest solution?

Right, but then I'd need 3 mutes rather than one. I was just wondering if there might be an easier way.

If all the sends from the children are set the same, you could probably just send from parent track instead unless you’re doing some processing in between that you don’t want included in what gets sent.
Otherwise, the technique we’ve come to call “stealth sends” would help. Send the children to an unused pair of channels on the parent and then send those channels from the parent on to the FX.

You could make an additional track VCA master and the subs VCA slaves and use volume automation (-inf/0 dB, instead of mute automation) on the VCA master.

Can't do that, since all of my elements of this project are passing through those busses, and that would cause all of the reverbs for everything to mute.

I have some claps that are closer up in the mix and some that are farther back, so they have different wetness of reverb.

Interesting idea. Sort of like proxy sends lol. This is actually a pretty good solution.

That sounds like it would be a good solution also. I'm not really used to VCA setups though.

VCA fucks up non-linear processing on the parent AND requires an extra track. I promise stealth sends is the best solution.

Ya, stealth sends seems like the way to go to me too, thx.
