What's your recording set up?
Audio interface?
Connections etc?

Need more information in order to help.

If you are using the mic input of a sound card, that is totally normal. The mic preamps on sound cards are barely adequate for phone calls, but not much use for anything else. You will probably have to get an external mic preamp, then run it into the sound card line-in input to get decent results.

Disregard this if you are not using the mic input of a sound card.
