Default Your thoughts for Reaper v6

So,
the numbers are ticking towards a Reaper v.6
It's on the horizon somewhere.

If you where CEO for the dev-team,
what would you focus on for next major version?

I'd maintain support for Windows XP! LOL. (Self interest here.)

Get to rs5k already.

If goddamn sforzando and kontakt can have dfd why the hell cant rs5k.

And the little matter of better round robin implementation where i dont have to use a table made by the legend that is Tod.

And the little bug in rs5k which saves the whole sample set's waves into the project folder.

Do it, and i swear i will blow your mind.

What the (sulei)man said - upping the ante on RS5K would be awesome.

I'd drop all 32 bit versions and drop support for ancient operating systems like Windows XP and Mac OS-X older than, say, 10.11. I'd also drop Python from the scripting languages.

Hmm, dropping Python is probably not necessary, as it requires a 3rd party install anyways. Plus if there are any scripts that are still Python only, not converted to Lua, that wouldn't be so nice

That's exactly the reason I would like to have it removed. Getting Python to run with Reaper is a pain in the ass. (Especially if it has to be explained to scripting newbies on the forum.)

Hm, must say I didn't really have problems in making it work - Reaper auto-picked up Python from environment variables and it was really a breeze, over here.

OTOH, almost everyone's targetting Lua now, but I still have some Python scripts I did quite some time ago that I don't feel like converting to Lua, so I don't think Python support should be removed.

Something equivalent to Playlists in PT/Track Alternatives in Logic is one of the main things i'm missing in Reaper.

Edit groups for tracks being another.

Making it easier to add metadata for DDP export. I know it can be done using markers, but creating CD Text is cryptic and laborious. Reaper is an excellent mastering tool being used by an increasing number of mastering engineers, and making DDP export easier would be a help.

Proper video tracks and a dedicated Video layout panel/theme a la Vegas.

There's enough audio and midi options already.

Myself it's easy:

Groove Tool
with support for tempo-env, audio to/from midi, groove and strength.

Pitch and harmony window
Setting a vision for an updated ReaTune with multitrack-support, integrated with midi-window for full overview of pitch/harmonies in whole project.

This (ReaPhaze, ReaWah and ReaMod):

Something I've been asking for for years. Although, I'm alwyas being either outvoted or lynched by the die hardest REAPER 3 fans who think I'm way out of line with such requests.

We should drop MIDI while we're at it!!! Did you know that MIDI is from the early-1980s?! Crazy old.

It would certainly stop all that complaining about MIDI implementation in REAPER!

Seriously though, backward compatibility is one of the strengths of REAPER that sets it apart from other DAW's.

RS5K improvements (glissando, pitchbend limits, fix the cc-controlled ADSR ms limit bug)

ability to auto-select most recently recorded midi notes

more OSC values to represent things like whether or not global input quantize is on/off

And I forget

- A new theme with modern design and fully compatible with all screen size

- SWS implementation

- open project tab in docker of main project

- Split item at EACH MIDI NOTE (in arrange view)

- RMS/LUFS metering on every track

- Prefader- pre-fx Auto-Trim on master buss

- REApatch : A plug-in that allow to route hardware audio/MIDI bus through any track channel easily or vice versa

1. Mouse modifier for Rippling with item edge moves in both directions (like in video editing programs but with sample resolution) - MOST IMPORTANT FOR ME!

2. Field recorder workflow (ability to replace items - with others based on source timecode as in Pro Tools, or by analysing audio peaks to find "similar" audio as in DaVinci Resolve)

3. Compound Items - like a group, but which act as a single item. In other words, if I make a series of consecutive items a compound item, and then trim the right hand edge of it, only that edge moves (whereas at the moment with grouped items, the right hand edge of ALL items in the group is moved)

Those would make me a very happy bunny.
Andy

. Mastering features, more export functions, more wildcards etc.
- Sox src integration.
- PT style edit groups
- Improvement to takes system, stop splitting previous takes when stopping
- Make time selection and region edges snap to items.
- Keep optimizing whats is there already.

I'd love to see additional walter-ization within TCP and MCP to support VST control and feedback... for example, an integrated compressor slider and gain reduction led much like what's seen on MixBuss.

2nd wish is for complete node-based routing of all elements within reaper gain-structure/plugins/etc...

3rd would be vector-based UI of all elements (see Blender for example)

There are many smaller pet-peevey stuff going back to version 1, but after all these years I've given up hoping those get addressed. I just hope the devs are enjoying themselves and the fruits of their labours...

I wish Reaper would make young people like better music than what they do and maybe along the way, Reaper can make Taylor Twift go away...

The Feature Request to end all other Feature Requests!

Make some modules of REAPER open-source -- particularly the MIDI editor and any other modules that don't contain unique intellectual property.

Then the community can quickly fix all the lingering bugs and implement some of the easier FRs.

Justin and Schwa can focus their time and skills on developing amazing new features that require expert programming.

Personally I see no use in dropping 32b... The code is already portable and it's just a build step, so why drop it...

- I suppose the Python hook does not eat any considerable resources.
- Python is a language that (in many other environments) in the moment gets a lot of interest.
- "Beyond Python"is a tool that allows for easily seamlessly integrating Reaper in a larger software product.

I guess Linux support is slowly getting there.

Apart from that SVG, transparency and HiDPI support for themeing would be nice B)

ReaPack integration (installed out of the box by default)

JSFX (and other stuff's) help provided via ReaPack (MarkDown) in a context sensitive way out of the box).

ReaScript Help Text for stock plugins (Texts e.g. provided by users).

SWS (and critical stuff like MidiToReaControlPath) via ReaPack.
