Default RAGNARÖK released - Free VST synthesizer

RAGNARÖK is officially released.

Finally the result of the collaboration between Björn (Full Bucket) and myself, is now available for free download. Windows 32/64bit.

http://www.fullbucket.de/music/ragnarok.html

Quote:
Ragnarök is a VST™2.4 software instrument for Microsoft Windows® simulating a custom-built one-of-a-kind analog synthesizer from 1980. It is written in native C++ code for high performance and low CPU consumption.

Ragnarök is the collaborative work of Hans Peter aka CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin (synth concept, GUI design, user manual, patch programming) and Björn aka Full Bucket (DSP+GUI+patch programming). Read more about the background of this project in the user manual and in the respective KVR thread!

The main features of Ragnarök are:

- Up to 64 voices polyphony including portamento
- Unique 3+1 band-limited oscillator bank - up to four oscillators per voice
- Additional white noise generator
- Multi-pole filter (6–12–18–24 dB/Oct low-pass or high-pass) with resonance
- Two envelopes (ADSR or AD) with exponential slopes
- Low frequency oscillator
- Built-in Overdrive effect and 7 band graphic equalizer
- Cool repeat/pseudo arpeggiator functionality
- Double precision audio processing
- All parameters can be controlled by MIDI controllers
- Plug-in comes in 32 bit and 64 bit versions
- Fully compatible with SM Pro Audio's V-Machine™

Cool, nice synth. Tiny buglet with the buttons on the bottom row (Interval etc) with automation. The GUI only switches them off when a zero value (or near that) is received, but they toggle on/off at 0.5 (where they should).

I'll inform Björn (Full Bucket) about it. Thanks for the report.

Nice synth. Thankyou!

I'm somewhat awed by the fact that you actually made a real one. You should get it fixed!

Thanks so much for this ...

Maybe we will see it in OSC????

I'll be giving it a good going over in the next few weeks.

Back to my OSC 68 listening and voting - phew a hard one this month eh?

Cheers,

dB (aka DoctorBob)!

Yeah, I first build it and then learned both playing and synthesis with it. A great way to get into making electronic music, and music in general. But it's close to impossible to fix it up, both time-wise and for the cost of it. Restoring it will come close to actually rebuilding it completely.

I'm actually thinking about building a dedicated MIDI-controller with the new design of the plugin, but that's for another year as well

Yep, another mega OSC. I listened to all the tracks, stunning stuff again. But I can't find the time or energy to dive into the voting process right now. Maybe another one

This is really nice. Great focused sound with lots of texture. After spending a few hrs with it, I completely understand the emphasis on live performance.
The big knobs on the GUI were a treat. I didnt really miss the velocity and found a single voice option to be the optimal for many things. I was quickly able do create some very usable sounds and modify them on the fly. This is one synth I will take the time to map to my novation sl 25.

Thank You for taking the time and effort to share this rare gem.

Well this is somewhat exciting! I missed this post but now that I've seen it, I'll be downloading later today and giving it a shot. I'm posting this from my phone.

I've been eagerly awaiting this since you first mentioned the development work TG. Can't wait to try it out for real.
This might make a good topic for a story on my new synthesizers website too. Have a look if you haven't seen it already... http://synthesizers.audio/

I've just downloaded and installed this and am already having quite a bit of fun. Playing octaves on that Autobahn patch and I'm waiting for the 'auuu---tooo---baaaahn' voice and the sequence line to start! Total Kraftwerk right there!

I really like the oscillator detune feature too. That is real Eminent 310u territory. I'm about to try it with a Big Rock (EH Small Stone VST emulation) thrown on it.

One thing I have noticed though is that it isn't responding to sustain pedal off messages. If I press the sustain pedal and release it, the notes hold and I have to either toggle rec enable or toggle off/online.

Aside from that, this is certainly a very cool VSTi.

I had a lot of fun doing those presets

Put the solina-preset through it. Throw in a little bit of delay for good measure, I have Arcdev ET301 default on my Ragnarök track template

Yep, acknowledged and already fixed in the upcoming update.

Yep, I'm very happy with it and still in awe about what Björn (Full Bucket) did with it code-wise. It definitely turned out to have a bit of character that makes it a nice addition to other synths.

I'd already done that. A patch called 'Solina' is a no brainer for Small Stone + Delay, especially if one of your main electronic music influences comes from a man with the initials JMJ I use VoS NastyDLA MKII for most delay purposes.

That is exactly how I see this little gem... a very nice addition to my synth arsenal. It isn't a Swiss Army Knife synth by any stretch but clearly it isn't intended to be. I put it very much in the 'specific colour' category. It seems to be quite CPU friendly here too.

Any ETA on the update TG? The sustain pedal bug is a real killer for me and I REALLY like this synth.

1.1.0 is available for a few days now. Updated GUI, updated manual, a few new presets and above all, simple skinning support

Besides that, Ragnarök can use your votes on the KVR-forum (if you are active there):

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewto...p?f=1&t=425572

Currently running third place behind OBXd and Dexed.
