Default QUESTION: How to properly apply Fx to vocals

I am recording the song 'Wind Beneath My Wings' in the style of Bette Midler.
I have my Reverb and Delay Fx set to my satisfaction on the vocal.

However, when I sing the phrase "Fly, Fly, Fly Away (you let me fly so high)" I want to slightly increase the Reverb and Delay for effect on just that phrase.

So, what I did was sing it once through with the intent of using that recorded track to get the timing right of where I want the Fx to change. My intent by doing it that way was so that I can hear the Fx as I am recording it so that I can get the rendered version to sound the way I want.

For example, to get the sound of the increased delay to go as long or short as I would like it to.

Or, do I need to wait and do all of this in post production?

Anything that you do during recording to capture something closer to what you actually want to hear is the thing to do. You're doing it right!

All I'll add is to not be afraid to split out little parts like that to separate tracks if/when it's convenient. Like a separate track with it's own delay dialed up for just that little part for example. That lets you just grab the controls for that without having to 'preserve' the other parts by writing automation and so forth.

What envelope should I use to increase the intensity of the delay and reverb tracks?

I don't want to increase the volume, just intensity.....

when you hit the trim button you should get a list of all possible controls for the delay or verb FX you are using...
pick what you want to become an automation lane and work with that lane

or you can set the lanes to Latch and just move the controls on the FX and you will get lanes added for whatever you move...

then you can change Latch to Trim Read and manually adjust the points in those lanes

Thanks for the suggestion. I learn best by watching videos.
Can anyone suggest a video on YouTube that demonstrates for this?
Is there a term that describes this process?

Delay has the time parameter.
Slow: echo.........echo.........echo
Fast: echo..echo..echo
And the feedback parameter:
less: echo...echo...echo...
more: echo...echo...echo...echo...echo...echo...

Sometimes feedback is labeled "intensity".
I'm not sure if you are using that term yourself or reading it off some delay plugin. The equivalent control on a reverb would be the reverb time.

Sometimes people will use a term like intensity to refer to the fx level vs the dry sound. That would mean simply turning up the fx.

So...
Depending on which of those parameters you meant, that's the control you'd move or automate with an envelope.
