Default Glueing samples together to sit in a Mix?

I am using Ableton and Reaper as a Master, to produce ambient, chill out music, and of course use a lot of samples from old Orchestral recordings, notes sampled here, there, as well as synth pad chords etc from all sorts of sources to make a 'collage' of sounds that sit in key together..

This maybe a daft question, but as I am sampling from many sources from film, to cd albums, and internet, is there something hardware or software that you would put on the Master channel to try and glue these types of sounds together better?

I am thinking of the style of BoC, Burial, The Orb etc who mainly use samples from various sources.

Would there be a specific plug in to use on the Master for this type of music or sound?

Or is it just a case of using a compressor to glue things together, and creative EQ on the Master channel?

there's no "trick" outside of getting good at mixing. use fx as necessary until you develop the skill.

all mixes that aren't using one room mic are using "samples from various sources."
