Well, ivan can't used a pick very well because of grip problems, and he's getting problems with using his fingers. He plays hard and the nails split from his fingers causing pain. Plus he mentioned trying out a thick rubber pick.

Believe it or not I already tried them!
But because they are designed to "stick to money" they do a pretty good job of sticking to bass strings as well! Shame.

I might get a few and see if they would work, very cheap. I just need to protect my nails when playing the bass.

Tried adding bulk to the upper part of the pick Ivan?
I know I suffer a bit with gripping things too.. Not having the same trouble as you sorry to hear of your hassle.

The Alaskas and the others I had seen advertised but didnt know you could get them from the UK.
I might have to try that for guitar, never mind bass.

And I am about to order a pack of three 5mm thick rubber picks.....

I just blowed 25 quidz on picks. Your fault.

Including one of these for the thumb. The Perfect Touch Nickel Thumb Pick.

Look a bit wierd but you never know. They wrap around the end of the thumb tip rather than sticking out like a regular thumbie. I been using the Jim Dunlop Zookies for guitar for years so we'll see.

Ewwww! This entire page gives me the creeps. I absolutely cannot stand the feel of those things on my fingers. Nope.

I bought some of these recently:

Which are good for a couple of specific things that very few people ever want to do on purpose.

is there big common ground between what a pianist does with his left hand and a bassist?

could a pianist figure out what to play on a bass easier than a guitarist maybe...since pianists play basslines as well?

If there is it passed me by. I can't get my left hand to play at the same time as my right on keyboard. Doh.

I work with two or three keyboard players with a broad span of ability.

Usually I find the ones that DO want to play a bass line as well tend to do it without listening to what I am doing, which is a bit of a shame.

(cue violin playing joke)

As this thread is now so far removed from the original subject, can I make the first vote for "lounge"?
