Default Looping and Overdubbing (Audio) .. again

Hi there,

this topic appears quite often, but so far I could not find an answer.

What I want to achieve?

Defining a time section and jamming over it. Reaper should record in a loop over this time section, play back (while recording) what already has been recorded and record what I play via the given input.
Ideally non-destructive (maybe with takes?) But destructive would also be ok as a first step.
It should produce the same workflow I would have with a looper pedal like the digitech jamman or the boss looper pedal. (or the korg kaossilator=

Could not achieve this so far, the only result I got was multipled takes, but without that playback. I would really love to hear what I recorded before, otherwise it's difficult to jam in reltime :-)

cheers

--At each loop ( enable this option )

Options ( main )
-New recording that overlaps existing media items

Hi darkstain, any solutions so far?

I tried this, but didnt work:
- created a media file on an empty track, made it (i.e.) 4 bars long,
- made a 8 bar loop out of it
- tryed to record in that empty "media file" with my guitar
and hoped, that this part will be looped in the loop section
- unfortunatly it made "just" a new track.

Next thing I want to try is midi

yes, so i am also interested in reaper looping capabilities, i am searching and googeling and i would be glad to hear some updates.

Tnx

Hey there!

I think the solution you are looking for is here https://youtu.be/zrrVnPOOvk4?t=301
just create a loop section and you are good to go

A while back I asked a similar question as there are a lot of things that Reaper can do. That said, I opted to go with a looper pedal, in fact I got two, a Ditto and the Digitech looper with drums and bass built in.

Creating a loop section in Reaper is simple enough if you have recorded something in to a track, then in the ruler you can select using mouse a number of bars which will show as a highlighted line, and then switch on the loop feature in the transport controls.

I am pretty sure you could add a second track to record into and then set record going and it should loop the looped section. If I recall correctly this created multiple 'Takes' in the loop section when I played with it, but life can get real messy trying to audition and sort the wheat from the chaff doing that. It also did NOT playback the previous pass/take (I think this is what you are seeking). Hence I went with the looper pedals.
