Mixer and tracklist views, I didn't realise you could split the project up like that using SWS snapshot extension
It can't be done with screensets so i gave up on it
SWS put me on to it when i mentioned wanting to do it the other day

Full explanation
1 Create visibility snapshots using SWS tracklist and snapshot extensions
2 Assign snapshots to buttons on the toolbar

That's about it really
I created some toolbar buttons just for my different views to make it easier for myself

The theme is my own theme, never released it cause most people prefer 3d looking themes

Weird i have my monitor set up a specific way i think cause it is the only theme i can use without getting sore eyes lol

Oh and for what its worth you don't have to go as far as me and make toolbar buttons
I just prefer it that way
You can switch views directly in SWS extension and even dock it too if you want

You still have to make a project template right? In reaconsole you can type in vox and all tracks with the word vox in the name get affected. What if you can make a "Mixer tracklist template" so that whenever you have a track with a user defined word like vox in it, it automatically gets added to the vox (or any predetermined) track view?

It would also have to work with more than one word. With this any track with multiple predetermined names (kick, Snare, HH etc) automatically is added to a predetermined track view (drums).

This is way cool. I use screensets and SWS snapshots a lot, but assigning project icons in this way is genius...

You can thank SWS as usual
I came up with the idea of doing this and after finding a few bugs (Now fixed thanks schwa) this works great for me

Just in case you hadn't seen this one too..

Tim (sws) added an amazing key command recently that not only zooms to selected items but will also hide other tracks so the mixer focuses just on those tracks.

What's even cooler is that pressing it again reverts back to before you used the action!

OK completly redone this now with macros using Zapps idea and shit it is so so so so much better
Again thanks go out to SWS because it uses a bunch of his actions in the macro

The way it works now is just on naming convention no need to make snapshots (Worked on a project last night using the snapshot method and it was a total PITA)

So basically when you press the buss button it just shows folder tracks nothing else
When you press the beat button it shows tracks with beat in the name and so on and so forth

I will find out how i get access to the wiki and post a full tutorial on how to set up your macros and stuff
Once its done its done you just use a specific naming convention and jobs a good un

So cheers to SWS again for his actions and Zapp (And SWS it has to be said) for the update idea using naming (So much slicker)

Wow, that's totally sick. Nice work NAS. I'm not sure I can take advantage of it though as I'm using SWS snapshots as a work around for scrolling the mixer view using my BCF2000. Shame. Maybe when the control surface support is finished then it'll be possible and I wont need to use the snapshots that way, freeing them up for this kind of use.

Love the fact you've made your own buttons too and digging the theme - it reminds me a bit of Bars and Pipes. Any chance you could share it with us?

Cool

so are you using the reaconsole method where you can create a command in the reaconsole text file to find certain tracks? look forward to the tutorial as maybe you are doing it a different way to me?

I like to use certain characters in tracks to make it easy to filter them via sws tracklist.

= groups
> sub groups
< send fx

etc.. bit shorter than full names but I guess it could get cryptic!

I'm also going to rename the sws custom colours to get back the functionallity I had in nuendo where I could name my colours and then get use to what colour means what

@ Curvespace
It doesnt use snapshots anymore

@Musicbynumbers

Yeah its a just a bunch of custom reaconsole commands for select blah blah
S*blah blah*

Then using those actions as part of a macro
reaconsole S*blah blah*
Show selected hide rest
Unselect all

That is for most of em

For show all its just the show all action
for buss's its
select folders
show selected hide rest
unselect all

But as i say i will do a proper run through in the wiki when i can get access

SWS may be able to help with some naming stuff so it is even slicker but i'm not gonna hassle him cause he does so much for us already

Ok, well it's a bit funky with my setup, but certainly usable. As well as making custom toolbar icons for it, it works a treat with keystrokes or better still - buttons on a control surface

They aren't for grid quantise snap
They are macros for erasing (I miss a bunch of features from Acid)
I have my Grid snap zoom relative so i never need to open that panel to be honest, When i do its in my options menu

Noob question:

Do you think it is possible to lock down the height of the MCPfadersection with an SWSextension?

Well, NAS,

this seems amazing interesting...

Searches for 2 hours to implement this in my Reaper, but to complicated for a simple DAW-user like me...

Would prefer this selections as extensions like 'Select tracks with "BEAT" in name' and '...with "Synth" in name', etc.

Maybe something for the experts...?

Great idea. Think I'll mention this kind of stuff in the presentation I'm doing on Reaper as well. Cool stuff.

Only screensets can do that AFAIK, though the TCP width for example is not part of even a screenset unfortunately. Bit of a shortcoming there, and a good one to whine to the devs about.

IF you read the WIKI entry i made you will see that this is exactly how it works
Once you create the console custom commands
(C'mon now if S*BEAT* is too complicated for you to type then honestly you shouldn't be using a computer)
That will create an action that shows in the list

It really is simple to be honest
If you want to do this you will
If you don't you wont
But it won't be anything to do with it being complicated (It isn't) it may well be my explanation on the WIKI is crap
So sorry about that

Once you have just these tracks showing you can also use the actions to select all items and then zoom to them. that near enough negates the track view.

well, I don't actually use the script way much any more I use this set of commands below to just simply select a few items and then be able to zoom to them and hide other tracks plus press it again to zoom out and show all tracks, works very well.

Custom action

-SWS: toggle zoom to sel item(s), hide other tracks
-SWS: Show selected track(s) in TCP and MCP
-Track: Select all tracks
-SWS: Hide unselected track(s)
-Track: Unselect all tracks

(the extra ones are needed to make this work as a toggle button)

But even if you do it the reaconsole way you should be able to just select all items and then zoom to them?

The other thing I do is just have a key set to focus the SWS tracklist, this way I can press this key and then type "drums" after to filter all but drums out of the track, I then have one more key command to "select all tracks" then "SWS: vertical zoom to selected tracks minimize others" which will just focus the drums, not as fast but more adaptable for me.

Great idea to put them on the toolbar, I'm hoping with multiple detachable toolbars and presets for changing through sets will give us even more control over this!

Ahhhhh yes you have done it the same way i was doing it but there is a slight buggy with that and SWS show all tracks (The grand master SWS has been informed)
And i'm using show all for my full button
It's not a major buggy, sometimes you have to toggle zoom twice when you click full for the scroll bar to work so you can scroll down

Forgot about the scroll bar sometimes disappearing it happens here too but not noticed it for so long especially as I have zoom and scroll on hardware controllers so don't use sidebars.

got to hand it to sws though! without it reaper would still be amazing but not quite as amazing! lol

Wow. This is great. Using that console text file opens up a ton of possibilities. I can now hit one key (well, two really. Ctrl C) and Reaper automatically applies my custom colors to the appropriate tracks. So any track with the word "Folder" in it's title turns orange, any track with "Midi" turns green, etc.

All my custom coloring done instantly across the whole project.

Amazing.

Instead of using toolbar buttons I have them assigned to my numeric keypad. # to show the group, Ctrl+# colours the group, Alt+# shows the group and solos it.

What I really want is a 'zoom vertical to available space' action...

I think Cockos could combine all this stuff into a single really powerful tool. Some kind of group management 'thing', whereby you can create your own list of preferred groupings, assign a track colour to each of them, an icon and then action keys too (plus any other kinda cool stuff you can think of).
