Advent Baby II speakers as NS-10 alternative
The venerable Yamaha NS-10 has achieved near legendary status in mix/mastering studios due to its (supposedly) crummy frequency response which highlights the mids and which emphasizes mixing errors in said range.
Since the prices for an original set of NS-10's is a bit high, as well as its current repros, I'm wondering if a set of Advent Baby II speakers might achieve the same or similar frequency response for mixing and/or mastering?
I have a pair of Baby II's from the mid 1980's, and was never happy with them in a Hi-Fi setup.
Research on 'Audiophile' forums pretty much dismiss them as 'crap', and I agree ... (nice furniture, but crummy sounding) ... so of course I'm interested if they might work as an alternative to NS-10's in the studio.
On my set, the foam 'surrounds' have completely deteriorated, so it's a matter of determining if it's worth the expense and effort to replace the surrounds, or if I should just abandon them completely.
All ideas and opinions are welcome
Thanks,
