Default that and item edits update video! ;) need that one please! ;)

pandora's box indeed..

only need crossfades for video and maybe access to video effects and reaper has accidentally turned into a basic video editor too with most of final cuts edit modes already in there and no need for annoying key commands to change tools!

think this has been reported but getting "hangs" on trying to change a wma to an avi encoded with h264. tried a few different things, not much time here to go into detail but will when I get a chance!

This is the info for the video that hangs just after it's finished (tried online, offline and a few format types within avi "264" setting to convert to, could it be a codec I don't have installed or does FFmpeg deal with that?)

Video: 720x576@25.00fps, Aspect=1.00, Decoding format=RGB

Is it possible to put the DLL files in "Plugins" folder rather than bare Program Files/Reaper? It would be tidier that way...

My Feedback (Pre8)

Wow!!!!

exporting video is quick & the file is small & the quality is gooood!!!

i have only tested on a few limited formats (& i did notice that exporting to .mov or .mp4 writes a file with a .avi extension)

i have Vegas 6 on the farther in laws old laptop here & Psalms One Studio has Vegas 8 that we use for all our video stuff,

now Vegas dose make video editing very simple, but playback of video while editing stutters at best & export takes forever (& Psalms One Studio's PC is WAY quicker than mine)

from video fades make it in to reaper i will not need to boot that Pentium M laptop ever again (my 2 year old son can have it as a toy from granddad )

IMO Video editing is something for Reaper to consider!!

PS, the bug i reported with color messing up on some formats on import is fixed in Pre8!!

any folder in the reaper is better than the reaper folder IMO

or dose it need to be in the same folder as Reaper.exe?

Exiting developments, tho Reaper betas are pretty dam stable, I'm going to hold off on installing this yet.

So some clarification, the quote above suggests I need the 64bit vers of Reaper (and an OS to match) to get QT. Is this true? Airon's post way back suggests he's getting Mov payback on XP 32 bit (?) I'm a bit confused

Any comments on this, Cristophe?

Also, "Xvid" should be retyped as "XviD", and "H264" is "H.264" ^^'

I'm really hoping that this new stable decoding / shuttling means that christophe and the guys will soon be able to put the "biggy" that's to say "item edits update video position"

(I know we can posting about it but I would be over the moon if it went in and would be able to use it for my video work then (hence buying a commercial license)

For now, it scans the Plugins and UserPlugins folders where the user's REAPER.INI file is located (as well as reaper.exe's folder).

I just added the program files Plugins folder to be scanned also for the next pre.

Why not Programs\REAPER\FFmpeg subfolder too?

Default Since the video follows the edit cursor well now, surely it's now just a case of...

..having a "edit mode" icon that when active means the edit cursor follows the item, meaning that the edit cursor and therefore video follows it too

maybe easier to do then a background solution that doesn't effect the real / last edit cursor position (so you don't have to play from last item.

I know it's too late for this release but food for thought take you time and get it right, no rush!

well AFAIK its needed to export mp3's from Reaper (& to import them i think) so its more than ok to post links to lame here, (i guess)

as this link you want to post is not needed in the main release it might be better to wait in till the main release of reaper needs it (but i personally see no harm in posting it)

its not like this forum is privet & i GUESS!! the reason why only stuff about pre releases should stay in here is to save confusion with those that only use main releases,

but i have no knowledge of what would & would not be ok! i'm only speculating! so don't take my word for it

I'm talking about displaying those links somewhere in REAPER (maybe just in the Changelog or in the About dialog) not the forum here!

So new users wouldn't need to search this forum here first.

indeed, it would be great if the video window on first open could display a message with a link to the files. If not it might get missed

My attempts at video export crash consistently.

My source is
Quote:
Length: 0:59.039
Video: 800x448@25.00fps, Aspect=1.00, Decoding format=RGB
Audio: 44100Hz 2ch 16bps

Video: h264, yuv420p, 800x448, 2948 kb/s
Audio: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 1411 kb/s

Reaper always hangs at the end of the render process, and the render window never closes.

Here is the uploaded Quicktime source movie. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F207Z3JD (27.62 MB)

Export settings for XVid AVI https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/317944/...AVIxvidAc3.png

Export settings for Quicktime Mov https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/317945/...64AACaudio.png

Next step would be to take the source settings by default. Maybe even have render presets for this kind of deal.

Nope!! Absolutely not - mine doesn't! Some of us have been done that road before with a certain other audio app...

Just implementing even the vaguest hint of actual video editing would be opening up the biggest can of worms you could possibly imagine! I'll be very pleased just to have rock solid sync (inc. with scrub) and video render in REAPER and once that's achieved IMO that should be it.

When's a DAW not a DAW? When, erm, it's an NLE

VideoLAN (makers of VLC media player) are expected to release a free video editor:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02vdwNsvbZI

http://trac.videolan.org/vlmc/wiki/WikiStart

I am not interested in advanced video features in Reaper at the moment. Good solid video sync, and wide format support is all I need for now. The export feature is a major plus.

Basic video editing (insert/remove/copy/paste frames) would be fine and useful too.

+ (remove this comment) Video-FFmpeg: encoder now uses proper extension

It uses the .mov extension no problemo for QT/MOV/MP4...any chance we can rename the output file to mp4/m4a/m4r? Or even better, have their own format placeholder? Currently it reverts to .mov upon rendering.

Not a huge deal, but it seems redundant to always have that extra step after rendering (yeah I know that its aimed at video, but Reaper can export ringtones now...too cool!)

Great work as always...

I hv totally weird situation here. I downloaded pre 12. and copied ffmpeg dlls in reaper folder and imported video files and every file was out of sync aud/vid. I tried every possible files from mpeg to xvid, mp4. I tried to render export vid file from reaper . then it got hanged. then i removed all dlls from reaper folder. and then everything was working flawless. I hve klite codec pack installed dunno weather it is making some mess. I can work happily without the ffmpeg dlls. but my only sorrow is I cannt export vid files from reaper . I am using winxp sp 3. (other things such as scrubbuing is cool with out dlls )

Maybe the devs could add a global option (Preferences/Media/Video) to decode via DirectShow for you!?

That'll be rc1 I presume. Thanks for the fix. Will test it thoroughly today.

What was the problem ?

Nimkar, let's have a testfile and some text from the item source window. Maybe there's something funny going on.

Also try limiting the colourspace in the prefs.

I would very much resent it if Reaper were to mutate into the next bloated piece of try-your-hand-at-anything software.

It is OK for Reaper to play video so we can align audio with video to make sure the trash cans burn in time with the beat of our latest urban music masterpiece. But that should be it.

Especially when some things that I would consider key features of a DAW (e.g. most of the stuff that so far is only in SWS/Xenakios extensions; audio editing; comping; ...) still remain to be implemented...

So far video is broken for me once I put the dll's in the reaper directory. Before, I was using FFDShow systemwide (ffdshow tryouts v2035) with quite good results. Could it be doubling up or something? I may try temporarily uninstalling the systemwide FFDShow decoder and test it unless anyone has any better ideas.

The video just hangs on one frame and is glitchy if I move the cursor around. Tested with .wmv and .mov(H264) which both worked great before putting the dll's in the reaper folder. Any thoughts?

[Update: I uninstalled ffdshow and it didn't fix the problem. Anything I can do to help the troubleshooting process?]

Shouldn't it be readable by FFmpeg?

MP4s wont import unless you rename them to .mov... it would be great if we could import mp4s as is.

*And especially cool if we could render as MP4/M4r etc without renaming after,

you could have a VERY popular ringtone maker there mate! The majority of the competition are just crap...just my opinion, I can work around it myself either way.
