Default Cleaning up Signal (bleed) for triggering Drum Samples (Slate Trigger 2)

What Plugins/Software or techniques are helpful to get a clean signal into Slate Trigger 2? I’ve done some basics, ie separated the drums, found the best mic placement and dialed in Trigger 2 as best I can but bleed and mistriggering continue. For example, the Snare gets bleed from both the Toms and the Hi-hat. I’ve messed around with several Gates but it’s difficult to keep the low volume of Ghost Notes loud enough to be triggered accurately while blocking the louder bleed of the other instruments. I’ve started experimenting with the Sonnox Oxford Drum Gate, which, though another gate, seems to work in a different way and hopefully will make a difference.

Any experience with this problem? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

The tactic I use is to heavily EQ the track leaving just the strongest frequencies of the drum

Thanks Fergler.

Is there a plug-in or software that you prefer to do that with?

You should be able to do that all inside the plugin:

For the toms, you should be able to set up the "rejection" control (I think it's something like main signal [snare] to channel 1 and the signal you want it to ignore [toms] to channel 2).

And for the hi-hat, there are the filters you can use to focus in on the fundamental of the snare.

That being said, if you're recording the drums yourself, you're much better off working on getting the raw tracks sounding as good as possible and just re-inforcing the tracks with samples [so you don't need to replace all the ghost notes]

Default several Gates

I’ve messed around with several Gates but it’s difficult to keep the low volume of Ghost Notes loud enough
