Yup, that was the hunch

I think it's OK if the Raw FX files are not cross platform, what's that look like from your end ?

Terrible! It means I'll have to have two CSI folders, one for each system. Instead of the one I have now, sitting on DropBox

Excellent! Here's a new version with a couple of bug fixes.

Edit: See if you can get a multizone map to work (not modifiers) I can't and I can't see where I'm going wrong.

I find all of this really helpful and thanks for the great effort done with this CSI but 116 pages of comments for a new comer is a bit...you know..

So, my questions are.
Did anyone "map" the all behringer X-Touch universal (the big one) to use it in reaper so it is able of :

-Controlling the standard MCU things ( faders, pan, volume, transport, etc)
-IMPORTANT : controlling the plugins in the surface; ( i see that Ableton live and Harrison Mixbus has a very nice already made MCU for this controller, everything works)

-Being able to do Sends on faders for buses
-Use the f keys to map any reaper action

PLEASE, don´t say RTFM because the one that comes with CSI is...very short.
would be REALLY great a video with a few basic config steps just to let us run through the all process if needed.

Thanks

Not yet, that I know of.

If you load the stock MCU, I'll bet that gets you very close.

Then, just post here what you want changed, and together we can easily come up with a good mapping.

Plugin maps are somewhat sparse, but right now work is progressing on a real-time Learn Mode that will make that much easier.

Agree, it's alpha software, and the lack of documentation is painfully evident.

Yes, definitely in the works as soon as Learn Mode is operational

Quick OSC question. What do I have to do to get Reaper to advertise itself as an OSC host?

I have TouchOSC on my iPhone and it links fine with Logic, but I don't see the computer as a host in the Connections screen when I run Reaper.

Thanks Geoff Waddington
You are a nice man! Thanks you. I´ll pay attention to this thread to see the development. The integration of a GUI for real time learn on MIDI/parameters on plugins, would be a game changer for everyone here!

Several months ago I posted a "map" of the midi values for the X-Touch Universal. It is very close to the standard MCU map, but there are a few differences. That midi map can be found in post #2422 of this thread. https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...postcount=2422

I didn't get much farther than the initial mapping, and ran into some issues getting CSI to work properly at that time. Things also started changing a lot with the CSI coding from that point, and I haven't been able to spend the time to try any of the newer versions.

Wish I could offer more, but hopefully this will help get you started.

Yeah, they're probably using BonJour, which is planned for CSI, but way down on the priorities list, unfortunately, for now it's manual setup for CSI

You need to get the Reaper IP, which you can get through network setup, or, I just pretend I'm going to set up an OSC interface, choose Local Port mode and there is Reaper's local IP.

You need to enter compatible port numbers at each end (CSI and iPhone) -- 8000 and 9000 seem to be the most common.

Now, if you monitor input in the Learn Mode Window, you should see any OSC messages sent from TouchOSC.

Let me know how it goes.

We have contact! Not entirely sure what was wrong. I tried for ages last night with the latest build., with all the same addresses and port numbers I'm using now, with no luck.

This morning I went back to the build from Aug28th to generate some RawFXFiles to use with the Configurator and when I saw your post, I just tried it again with that build and it worked. I've now gone back to the latest build and it's working there too now (although not the RawFXFile generator, unfortunately)

If you could take a look at why multi zone FX maps are broken, that'd be great

Since you need a live FX instance, I think it's OK to expect a Focused FX to start your definition, if it is for an FX.

That will generate the Raw file if necessary.

They are for Euphonix/Avid Artist Control users only, thanks for reminding me -- should be a readme line for that.

Better wait 'til I'm a bit more up to speed. My TouchOSC for the iPhone has one button. One very large green button. Play/Stop But at least it shows proof of concept Oh, and I got the Android tablet working too

No rush, easy to switch to that old build and churn out a couple o' hundred RawFXFiles to be going on with (and what a sense of deja vu that brings...) But definitely don't remove the ability to generate the file externally, or us Configurator users are stuffed Did you have any more thoughts about the cross platform thing?

I don't have a stock one immediately to hand, but here's TDR's Nova:

So, i´m diving into the use of this. Please tell me.

I have to create a zone file for every single plugin and then create a zone inside the CSI surface tab?

How do i know what is the name to use for FXparameters so the CSI can comunicate with the DAW and the plugin ?

Using Notepad++

I've been having trouble with Zones since the learn mode came in to play, I know alot changed but it seemed like I was making headway with the C4emu, now it's very sketchy.
I'll roll back to one from end of August and see if all comes back.

Thanks for your input, but im a musician and mix engineer , not a programmer!
I cant figure out how to make the plugins to be controlled by the X touch in reaper using the CSI. Sorry..
I looked at the mst files, zon files, copied the MCU surface and the MCU zon to the proper folder folders, i loaded everything in the right spot in the CSI (reaper preferences).
On the widgets file (MyMCU.mst) i see there is a command for the FX button that corresponds to the right MIDI message but nothing happens when i press it.
Is it that hard to grab the phone and make a 2m video for this purpose ?
I would be very happy, and maybe a lot of people here

I've been noticing some stuff too, but not sure whether it is Learn Mode or OSC interaction, will continue monitoring,,,

The place I ended up with the Configurator was to have separate subs to write the Zone file for Mac and Windows. The only difference between them is the Mac Sub writes Chr(13) onto the end of every line. That way the Zone files are the same whether they're created on Mac or Windows and work on both.

That's where you ended up when you changed the way the RawFXFile was written (before the latest version). What was interesting about the current learn window issue with the old RawFile was that the CR+LFs in the RawFile only offset the list by one. I'd have expected it to be offset by one for every CR+LF.

I'm pretty sure if you let the systems do their own thing, the Zone or Raw files created won't be cross platform. It's a massive PITA.

On the read side, MacCSI just seems to just ignore the CR, so finishing every line with CR + LF isn't a problem in the Zone files. WindowsCSI, however, can't deal with LF on it's own, as written by Mac, and so files created on MacCSI won't work on Windows (but those created on Windows will work on Mac). Doh!

Incidentally, the otherwise brilliant BBEdit does a poor job of showing the EOL characters. For a clearer idea of what's going on, I found KomodoEdit better for checking the output. (https://www.activestate.com/products...ownloads/edit/).

I can't see anything wrong either, but the second zone only shows the alias names when it's loaded, no values or any controls operational.

I would be very happy, and maybe a lot of people here
Hey Pepe, I will try to post something tonight. It really is much more involved than a 2min vid and uploading. I've been where you are, I'm def not a programmer...shit I'm not even a musician, but once you start to get the hang of it, everything will make sense....that is until the next iteration!

Seriously, as Geoff said this is a very very very early stage. Things are changing all the time. Just a few weeks ago, I had the PERFECT setup, then a new [better] version made me have to redo some things, then another new version and the same. I've been using this for about 1 year now, and I STILL have many questions. So, patience is going to be key here and this group will def help you out. No promises, but I will try to make a video later tonight to show how to setup

Could you just run through how make this build output a RawFXFile for a previously un-mapped FX?

Sure, it's a pretty quick run-through -- it doesn't... yet.

Seriously, that's next up, hopefully have something tomorrow.

You'll have to focus an FX, then push the New button for a new file.

It will hint at the name and initial Zone.

Saying OK will generate the RAW FX file, but will not save the FX file.

At least that's the thought right now as to how it will work

Ok, try this. It's 18 min long and probably just scratches the surface. It's a little all over because its hard for me to grasp still, let alone explain. But this I think should at least get you up and running.

In the way CSI is constructed, it of course will be possible to do anything with any type of Control Surface device.

So the question in fact is, if you find somebody who provides the appropriate configuration (files for CSI to digest) fitting for the Control Surface device and your intended workflow, This of course will be a lot easier that for find a dedicated software that dedicatedly supports he Control Surface device(s) and your intended workflow,

afraid this doesn't work either. It's so weird, it's not just the channels but other buttons that should work and even show up in the midi monitor but don't activate anything I've setup. Even when verifying all the midi messages, i swear sometimes it would change. Am I going crazy??

Thanks a lot for the video ! You are the best! Thanks you very much.

Edit: Saw the video, i was on that point already ehehe! now i know i did it right!
My problem now is controlling the plugins.

I created a blank text file and added these lines: (saved has *.zon in my folder)

Zone "VST: UAD Pultec EQP-1A Legacy (Universal Audio, Inc.)" EQP1A
SelectedTrackNavigator
LFBoost FXParam 0 "Low Freq"
LoGain FXParam 1 "LF Boost"
LoMidGain FXParam 2 "LF Atten"
HiMidFrequency FXParam 3 "High Freq"
HiMidGain FXParam 4 "HF Boost"
HiMidQ FXParam 5 "HF Q"
HiFrequency FXParam 6 "HF Atten Freq"
HiGain FXParam 7 "HF Atten"
Invert+Equalizer FXParam 10 Bypass
Parallel FXParam 11 Wet
ZoneEnd

This file is inside my folder

What else should i do so the surface ( behringer X touch) changes the display for the plugin controls ?
