Default MIDI quantize

I'm having a problem. I am a shitty keyboards player and need quantization. I can't get it to work in Reaper. Tried doing it in the MIDI editor, looked all the drop down menues. It just won't work. That's in pre-FX as well.
Either my keyboard playing is that bad that the PC can't process it, or else I've missed something?

what's going wrong? Quantising is pretty simple -
go into the MIDI editor,
select the notes you want to quantise
press Q
(select your strength, & make sure you have an appropriate grid size etc. if you are snapping to the grid)

In the track view, have you right-clicked on the Record Armed button (to the left of the track name) to bring up the menu?
Then choose Track Recording Settings (Input Quantize, Format, etc).
You will be able to click on Quantize Track MIDI Recording at the top left.
Set it as you please and you should be good to go.

I do it the domzy way.

I am no expert but I learned the hard way to quantize at a strength of about 80% (to keep some variation) and, generally but not always a 1/16 grid works for most instruments.

I have never managed to find a list of instruments by strength if there is such a thing but 80% at 1/16th works well if you want on-the-beat drums.

Experiment, it won't break!
