Default Recording midi sound module (Korg I5M) in Reaper

Hi all,
I want to record an old midi sound module (Korg I5M) in Reaper.
I have a 5 pin midi cable going "out" from my midi keyboard controller to the midi "in" on the sound module.
I'm thinking I need to send another 5 pin midi cable from the "out" of the sound module to the 5 pin midi "in" on my audio interface.
- anything i'm missing on the routing?
- anything special i'll need to set up in the Reaper track?

my hope is to record the midi, do any required quantize and then convert the midi to audio to preserve the sounds from the module without needing the module plugged in for playback, recording of other midi VST or audio tracks.

Thanks for any help/suggestions!

you need:-

MIDI out from keyboard to computer MIDI in
MIDI out from computer to korg module MIDI in

& make sure you select the MIDI out as a hardware send in the i/o routings window.

If you are trying to record the sound from the Korg module, you will also need to connect its audio outputs to the audio inputs on your interface.

My own solution for this setup, given that Reaper midi latency is unacceptable:

1) Reaper->midi out-->midi merger->sound module
2) Keyboard midi out->midi merger

3) Sound module midi out->midi in->Reaper

4) Sound module L/R audio output => 2 audio interface inputs

The midi merger is a box with several midi inputs and only one output.

Line 1: Allows sending Bank & Program changes, Sysex and midi notes from Reaper to the Sound module

Line 2: Allows using keyboard to play the Sound module with no latency.

Line 3: Allows recording keyboard midi, as echoed through the Sound module to its output, and for inputting Sysex messages from the Sound module.

The merge box wouldn't be needed if the keyboard could combine midi input data and keyboard messages into its single midi output, but its an old Korg DW8000 from the '80s, so it isn't smart enough to pull that off...
