Great! Is talk about 4.0, 5.1 etc accepted too?

Whike the intention here is to focus primarily on 3D formats (width, depth and height capable), Ambisonics itself can be worked with for mixing to any desired output including mono. In fact, every 5.1 or quad mix I do now is simply derived from a third order Ambisonic mix and it works extremely well.
Discussion on 2D formats such as 5.1 and 4.0 will inevitably come up in topics here but the primary intention is to promote and bring greater understanding and awareness to full 3D formats such as Ambisonics, Binaural, Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, IMAX and others and how REAPER can be utilized for creating content in/for such formats. These are just my thoughts and my purpose for requesting the creation of this section. I'd love to hear what others think about this and discuss the pros and cons.

Congratulations Dave! It's not easy getting a new forum started here, look at how long it took moderators to implement the MIDI forum (a no-brainer if ever there was one).

I've sent a bunch of private messages to some who have been active with posting about Ambisonics letting them know of this new section. I've also sent out a few emails to others too. If there's anyone you can think of who is interested in Ambisonics and other 3D audio formats, let them know too.

....and hopefully get more people interested in learning to use Ambisonics (and other 3D formats) for their productions.

SmajjL, DearVR are actually active on this forum. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with in future updates.
For those who don't have multichannel speaker arrays for 3D Ambisonic decoding, Binaural techniques look promising. The difficulty with Binaural though is coming up with either a personalized HRTF for each individual or a good general HRTF compromise that will work well enough with most people. The only truly convincing Binaural recordings I've heard to date are those made with expensive mics such as the Neumann KU100. So far, I've been a little underwhelmed by all the software created Binaural systems I've heard, including Waves Nx, DearVR, Blue Ripple, ATK for REAPER and others. Even after extensive tweaking, the best I've achieved is a good left/right image but nothing very convincing front/back and up/down wise. Maybe it is just that my ears don't fit the average mold too well so to speak.

I'm - very slowly - learning that the mics are the problem. Only the Core Sound Mic (and maybe the Zylia and the Brahma) offers full calibration. And recalibration in a few years. The others chose a "general" calibration, eg, not for the individual capsules and no recalibration.
Second problem is HRTF. I've read somewhere this could boil down to 7 basic head types. But I haven't seen these 7 types anywhere, so I'm taking that with a grain of salt. There was talk of an online HRTF calculation service, but I don't know where that's at. It should be possible starting from a precise series of pictures.

yey great initiative. might be good to have a sticky about other places such as

Yes, a great move for a software that is becoming "the multichannel industry standard" ;-)
Thanks ! |

The report function is more for reporting spam. I can move things around within this section but not from outside this section. I'm not a global moderator.

How do you change the colour scheme for track ambisonics? At the moment it keeps rendering my tracks shades of pink and yellow - I would prefer different colours

Do you have spectral peaks enabled in Options/Peak Display Mode/Show spectral peaks? If so you can toggle that off to give you custom control over the actual colour of the peaks. If not that then my next guess would maybe be a theme setting?

Try View/Peaks Display Settings.
