+ Media items: actions to force (persistent) offline of item media, inactive take media
The above action doesn't seem to work..Pls check my video link below
https://youtu.be/ZDqCcVTt3uY
I tried running X ray M script as well. This update made it quite inconsistant. It works some times and it doesn't work sometime. I can't understand what's going on.
Pls check the video

|
Yeah, that's a good question. I'm not sure the best way to resolve that.
Let me throw this out there. The use case really is for the purposes of seeing a timecode range and bars/beats at the same time since there currently isn't a way. Maybe you could consider separate ruler lanes that could be added? So for example set main ruler to bars/beats but then add an additional ruler lane and set it to display timecode?
So main ruler, additional ruler lane (timecode), additional ruler lane (absolute frames) or main ruler, additional ruler lane (elapsed time minutes:seconds), additional ruler lane (samples) etc, with the user able to select the format of the additional ruler lanes.
If that's too much to tackle at the moment, how about this? Leave source time as it currently is but in the item ruler settings add an option for "use project offset" for regular item time and item H:M:S:F. That would solve the issue you mentioned and keep the use case for source time from getting convoluted.

If you show take lanes, you'll see what is going on: The take switching has been updated so that if all of the inactive takes are forced-offline, and the active take is not forced-offline, then it will automatically preserve this state after the take switch (it will bring the media for the newly selected take online, and force-offline the old take).

Initially my setup doesn't show the Mixer and there is no flicker. But once I open the Mixer and close it the UI flickers unless I keep the Mixer open, hope that makes sense.
LiceCap, but you really can't see the flicker, and the REAPER.ini.

Wow..Wonderful..I see what's going on now..Very clever !!
Whatever you did..I see a substantial improvement while playing large projects. (with more than 12,000 files)
I have set "fully buffer peak files smaller than : 300000 KB" in options.. and I have periodically close excess file handles checked.
One thing I notice is when I open a large project with these settings..is that it doesn't play smoothly for a while when the project is opened...But after a while, it's fine. For example..it took me around 3 minutes to get smooth playback..I guess its building peak files in RAM during that time..So I would say having a progress bar to notify the user that its doing that would be very useful.
Would that be possible?

I confirm flickering with MCP closed completely and selecting different tracks in TCP either via mouse or up/down arrows.

Maybe make that ruler only visible as a setting in video preferences? That way, the sync guys could make use of it but it wouldn't impose on those who do not need it - or know what it's for.
P.S. I hope I'm understanding this correctly.

No, it would just be an additional ruler lane. Kind of like the CC lanes. You want to add another lane you hit the plus key and set the lane to what you want.
If you didn't want it, you just wouldn't add it.

Hmm it reads the files from disk synchronously so that 3 minute thing could be something else? Do you mean the UI isn't smooth, or the audio is dropping out?

The Audio and video playback is stuttery for a while...But I can wait when its loading..no problem..I just need to know what its doing so that I know when I can start playback..A status bar of peak files loading in RAM and how much of system Ram is still available for this use will be very handy

Apparently the API is broken here as well.
I use a script from mpl "mpl_Toggle float instrument on track under mouse cursor". The script works when hovering the arrange, but it fails when a track in the MCP is hovered.

Not sure if it was mentioned before but I can no longer switch the order of my FX in the Master channel. Also, drag n drop an effect from a regular channel to the master channel, no longer works. I'm on Win10 64 bit.
Thanks for the update!

Item Rulers
I'm really liking item rulers, however I find my self clicking on the ruler and expecting snap of edit/play cursor. So it would be awesome if that could be added at sometime, maybe even click drag, so we could make time selections.
Thanks

Mouse modifiers stopped working for me. Those actions that I add from the action list on a double click have stopped working

I think I found the issue. I turned off the "periodically close excess file handles" option..And I ran the API you made to close excessive file handles...whenever I relocate to a new position in a 60 minute timeline and hit play..I notice it is closing a few files..while it is doing that..I get stuttery playback. after a minute or so of those files get closed all is fine..untill I move to another random location in the timeline ..upon which the API is closing some files again..and its causing stuttery playback for a minute or so.
I guess this helps ?

Noticed a few glitches in the mixer. I'm on Windows 10 x64, running x64 version of Reaper:
1) Peak hold indicator on the master track always shows inf. Works fine in the TCP (seems rather obvious but I couldn't find any mention of it in the thread, not exactly sure what's going on here)
2) Switching to a different track while playing and monitoring midi notes leaves a red square on the previous track
Both can be seen here: https://yadi.sk/d/lcIhf6i37euyVg
3) Master track shrinks in height after switching to a different theme: https://yadi.sk/d/foeR1pcxCYXI6w

Hmm yeah BR_GetMouseCursorContext_Track() will need to be updated to work with the new TCP/MCPs. Or the script can use reaper.GetTrackFromPoint() which should work.

"undo" / "ctrl + z" still resets Melodyne when used as a track fx.
HOWEVER: I urge you guys having issues with this to try melodyne as a take fx.
...it's really nice and it gets it out of my inserts. It just feels right
y'know?

I can open around 8k tracks but RT CPU goes over 100% then... I wonder which settings affect this. What's your CPU, Tale?

Intel Core i7-7700 3.60/4.20 GHz.
Note that with a 64 samples buffer at 44.1 kHz my RT CPU is also >100% (nearly 300% in fact). But with a larger buffer of e.g. 1024 samples, the RT CPU is only ~15%. Not bad for >8000 tracks!

Ah yes, 128 samples buffer, i7-6700K at 4.5 GHz all cores here. Of course lower buffer size would demand more RT CPU.
I also noticed threading aggressiveness also takes up more CPU. Putting it on relaxed or automatic shaved off some more RT CPU.

I agree with this. Single event property would apply to a single selected event and multiple selected events would all get the same properties (if applied)?
-----
Noise section, noticed while testing:
Every time I changed between the docked/undocked states, the Grouping Matrix window defaulted at first to Wiring view. Simply closing and reopening the window, the view went back to the Grouping view. I recall somebody already mentioning this somewhere, so just FYI.
Similar way, when docking/undocking the Track Wiring, at first it opened showing Routing. After close/re-open, it showed Wiring.
Another thing
Track - MIDI track controls - when Show MIDI track control panel is selected, there is no way to remove the check mark > clicking anywhere on the line will just display the MIDI track control panel again. To me the action itself seems fine, click on the line and the control panels shows up. But the check mark is kinda misleading, because it will already be there the next time you open the menu for the given track, kinda suggesting that the control panel should already be showing...yet you'd still have to click on the line to actually open it.

Thank you Devs for tackling this issue. I'm sure it quite difficult to streamline a DAW that is already already as efficient as Reaper is.
I have to run some further testing on an actual writing session to confirm real world number but so far there does seem to be an improvement of CPU consumption on larger track count session.
I did a little A/B test to see where the track limits can get to in each Dev version. Something interesting is still happening once track counts get higher than 1000 tracks.
I'd like to explore why Total CPU and RT CPU consumption seems to go up exponentially after 1000 tracks. Anything between 1-1000 tracks and my CPU is about 2%. At 2000 tracks it goes up to about 30% and at 2500 tracks My CPU hovers around 50%. This seems very odd to me since the tracks are not record enabled, there our no outputs set and the tracks are all muted. The tracks are not selected and there are no items on the track so there shouldn't be any anticipatory fx processing going on.
Is there a preference in Reaper that might be causing these sorts of numbers?
