Default IK Multimedia TONEX: capturing a VST guitar chain?

Hey there!

So I got TONEX recently and I was wondering if there was a way to capture an amp sim instead of a real piece of gear?

It might seem counterproductive to use TONEX to capture amp VSTs, but I do use these and I’m wondering if I could just capture my settings into various TONEX presets.

I.e.: Turning this chain (Audiority Big Muff, Softube Amp Room, iZotope Match EQ) into one TONEX capture.

I just became aware of REAPER’s loopback feature and it seems like it could be used here, maybe?

At first I was thinking exactly what you were saying... "counterproductive."

But what you're describing is interesting - if you were playing live with an instrument that had multiple contributing plugs, and wanted to minimize latency and CPU load, that might in fact be a good approach.

I can't answer the question, but I'm watching the thread!

That’s exactly the reason why.

It seems like the modeling part of TONEX is only available in the standalone app. Which means REAPER's loopback feature is of no use here, I guess.

I need to find a way to send audio from my guitar/interface through REAPER where my FX chain is, then to TONEX standalone.

Surely there are wizards here who would know how to do that?

You mean to capture an Impulse Response of a fx chain to load into an amp sim?

I don't believe you'll be able to capture the non-linear (i.e. distortion) behaviour. Because maths.

Otherwise, if you want to send stuff from Reaper to a standalone (and back) check out ReaRoute, maybe.

Not impulse responses, Tonex is a machine learning algorithm designed to capture amps, cabs and distortion/dynamics pedals.

It's just the routing Mr. Noxx needs. I'd do that with my interface software mixer, but maybe something like Jack?

OK.

Would ReaRoute not do it? Should just afford an ASIO "interface" to the standalone.

I’ve tried ReaRoute but I must admit it was out of my expertise. Normal in-DAW routing is all fine to me, but I have no idea what I’m doing with ReaRoute.

I’ve even tried contacting someone who shared an amp sim capture on ToneNet but got no response. Same on the IK Multimedia user forum.

I wish there was a tutorial for this on YouTube.

Need to know Mac or Windows
if Mac
Blackhole audio router

If windows
Voicemeeter Banana/Potato or Virtual Audio Cable

ReaRoute should work too, here's a video
https://reaperblog.net/2022/01/rearo...ream-tutorial/

OBS is Tonex in your case

Windows 10
Audient ID14
Reaper (obviously), with ReaRoute

Unless I mistaken, ReaRoute can only create "audio hardware outputs". I think I need Tonex to send back to Reaper for it to go through my VST chain. So I'm kinda stuck there because I think I would need an "audio hardware receive" as well - Tonex (which I don't think ReaRoute does).

I think I've seen captures of VST plug-ins available on ToneNet. Here's one for example: https://www.tone.net/tonex/tonemodels/12515

See if you can get in touch with someone who's made a capture of a plug-in and ask how they did it.

Isn't this as simple as setting a Reaper track input to ReaRoute?

Am I missing the point? (wouldn't be the first time)

Experiment #38 - Multiple Reaper Tabs w/ ReaRoute

Result - Nothing... again

First, I have a guitar DI file.

I have two Reaper tabs opened, which I play synchronously. In the first tab, one track with the raw DI file. In the second tab, a rendered version of the VST guitar chain.

Tab 1: On the master track there's Hardware Outputs: ReaRoute 1/ReaRoute 2 (for the Tonex monitoring left and right speakers) + ReaRoute 6 (DI send)

Tab 2: On the master track there's Hardware Outputs: ReaRoute 1/ReaRoute 2 (for the Tonex monitoring left and right speakers) + ReaRoute 7 (processed DI track send)

In Tonex:

Green - ReaRoute Reaper=>Client 6
Yellow - ReaRoute Reaper=>Client 7
Blue - ReaRoute Reaper=>Client 6
Red - ReaRoute Reaper=>Client 1 + ReaRoute Reaper=>Client 2

During "Check", the meter shows it's receiving the raw DI signal. During "Capture", the visual shows it's receiving the rendered DI signal. The "Training" processes...

In "Review", and also after saving the capture, I'm only getting an ultra low DI sound, like barely audible. I'm thinking there's some kind of nulling effect going on or that there's still an issue with the routing.

Someone who did a VST capture responded to me that they used two computers looped together with their respective audio interface. That's not something I can do unfortunately.

Okay. Hmm... thought it had an easier solution, but maybe no one has figured one out just yet.

Maybe Jack from REAPER to standalone Tonex?
