Adventures Of Brave Knight Sir Dumb Shit
https://soundcloud.com/garrick-north...-sir-dumb-shit
updated
Here are me latest efforts.
It's pretty involved compared to my other tunes, I'm not experienced with mixing more than 2 or 3 elements so any tips are welcome

Yeah - very nice feel and good singing. You should become a musician... just a wild idea! I wouldn't mind reading the lyrics - I easily get lost in the music and vocals and forget about the words.

Cheers lads
Here be the lyrics Jorgen
The adventures of brave knight sir dumb shit
I drank a little wine
And went for a walk
In the woods I found a house
Made of love and gold
And I saw the pretty sky
And the rented crystal lights
And all the crumbs I left were gone
And I felt a little old
there was more
The grass was green and lush and grand
The brochure told me to stay
if I cared
And just when I saw the promises
the vapours got me instead
In the face.
They saw me come a mile away
god I was empty enough to be had

If anyone has tips" getting the drums really cranking, I used Ezi drummer patterns cause I just couldn't get it right but the patterns seem a bit lifeless to me

I bought the full kontakt 5 and drumsets from analouge drums. Then I tested the samples from these sets using Tod's r5k setup and it sounded more in youre face, maybe not cranky, but...
Don't know what drums you're using but..

Thanks msundh but I'm not worried about the sound but more that the midi patterns feel lifeless
I kinda know the answer already. Find a drummer

One thing that is easy to do, is to vary the Hihat sounds (not the velocity).
I found that making a big difference.
My problem lies in the fills.

Like the tune, Garrick.
Prefer your new mix.
Really tell the difference in the weight of it, from 01:16 for example. That's great.
Nice one.

I had a couple of listens now, I think to the first version. I like the guitar in the intro. I thought Drums could be improved, so I'll better listen to the new version.
Also the lyrics sound interesting (as usual), but i couldn't get all of them.

Hamish always interested in your feedback. The first version the drums were ezidrummer patterns but it was missing energy. So it was back to my own very human and flawed attempt bashing the keyboard like a monkey learning to type. Not pretty
btw
the lyrics are half way down the thread

I think the sounds are fine. For me the negatives are the timing not really working between drums/bass/guitar.
Remembering your 'rethinking the click' thread a while back I wonder what approach you took here?...
I would be inclined to map the grid to your guitar part and then play/sequence the drums to that, quantising them manually after where necessary. Edit the bass timings by splitting and shifting your items, or use stretch markers until you get the drums/bass/guitar to work together more. It's a time consuming pita but could really improve the thing.

Thank you Hamish you hit the nail on the head.
I now know exactly what I've been doing wrong. I did scratch track then used an ezi drummer pattern that was the closest to the song, then I tracked bass and guitar and THEN I did the drum parts proper.
So the guitar and bass were conforming to the pattern that didn't have the feel so when later I tried to add feel the g&b were always going to be at odds with it.
My god I'm a mug
cheers mate That's exactly what I needed to hear

Ok I have now redone a fair few things
Permission granted to rip it to shreds
Hopefully I found enough of a groove with my drumming

Sounds great and pretty professional. I'm hoping to see Sir Dumb Shit appear and gruesomely die in upcoming season of Game of Thrones.

How do you map the grid to played parts? That sounds useful. Never occured to me it could be done this way and not the other
edit: I know, tempo mapping, I'm being lazy.

HI! Sorry I'm a bit late to the party, too many silly things happened yesterday. I think it's hanging together better now. Of course you've changed the vocals a bit too, I like the ending now.

I had to hear the song after seeing that title. I could hear only the first version since all the subsequent ones gave me the "Oops" page.
I liked the starkness of the the tune the most. Gives it a "contemplative" feel.

Thanks Hamish I've learnt a lot doing this one. One thing being the second take is usually the best and it gets progressively worse after that.
