Default Exponential rythms generation

Who knows how to implement exponential rhythm series in midi?
Or how to mimic this technique:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbsQ3w0hPcw
I tried. It works but i used samples and automated pitch. Any ideas scripts for this kind of tasks?

If you paint in a bunch of short notes, I think you could do something in the midi editor with
juliansader's 1-sided Warp script
Which you would need to install (via Reapack? bit of a pain)

Thats is cool, what he does.

One should be able to do all of that in Reaper.. Another way that it could be achieved is to place some regular MIDI notes or drum samples on a 16th grid then use the tempo automation to slow or speed up the song while recording. Experiment.

you could either do it by hand - which is more or less what he does with that stretched drum hit, or you could use reagate to generate midi from a stretched or glitchy sample, or you could use sequencer baby 2 and modulate the rate

Add some notes, use the warp script.

no offence, but I had a look at the Ableton/youtube thing & was left wondering WHY anyone would want to do something this un-musical & call it music. I guess I am just too damn old.

I used to do this back in the day with audio in Acid Pro, removing/confusing the transient detection so it stutters the wav in weird ways. Its one thing I really missed when moving to Reaper. I think I even made a thread asking if it was possible in Reaper.

Interesting thread, thanks. Interesting that something I found by accident is now an accepted part of workflow! I dont ever want to go back to Ableton, I hated it, but damn, I'd love this technique back in my arsenal, for audio.

EDIT: 2 years old thread, are we any closer to doing this in the media explorer?

I literally was doing this a few days ago hehe I kind of made it but it only works with shorter samples like a snare or percussion hit.

https://i.imgur.com/VByC2YH.gif

Load RS5k and sample, add a sample end envelope by touching the sample end line first, make a downward ramp, check the loop box to make it repeat, and just move your envelope to however long you want it to go. After this I usually send it to another track and record the output and we're done.

Ah thats great, thanks. The gif explained it all perfectly, I see what youre doing.

Great technique! I do all this manually with copy/paste and manually using stretch thing with alt + left mouse click, and the item volume envelope. I'll add this technique as an option to use now tho!

Hey again!

I'd really like to know if there's anyone who knows about the script where u can change the MIDI notes like in the gif above where "jrk" is just dragging the mouse to get that exponential style rythms?

All the other techniques i already know and use, but it's not what "jrk" is doing there.

I can't find any "warp" or "ReaTeam" scripts or modifiers to do that.

Much love!

I havent used them myself, but searching Reapack comes up with 1-sided Warp and 2-sided Warp, both are for the MIDI Editor. Have you tried those?

I've got 2324 packages in total but no warp.. do u have a really old version of reaper installed maybe?

If i Type "js_mouse..." i get 8 different scripts from juliansader but not the one i'd like to see ^^

Latest Reaper, but I havent updated Reapack for a while. Let me check if it needs updating and they disappear

Yup, updating Reapack says they are no longer in the repository. D'oh!

Mhhh... but since u're still were able to use them i guess there are no issues with the newer versions. Are u aware of any way to get access to the outdated scripts?

ps.: i hope u made an backup and havent lost anything u need ^^

How is just select notes in the midi editor, and alt-left mouse grab and drag not doing what you want? Is that not the same thing?

I assume thats what the warp script would do and thats why its gone?

EDIT: Wait, never mind, I see how the gif is different.

Yeah it's quite a different approach from everything i've seen so far, thats why i really wanted to try it for myself. Too bad that it isnt supported anymore.

Maybe i'll start a fresh post tomorrow and request this feature in the feature request category, someone might done a similar script or is capable of scripting this.

Also birdbird's item modifier has a tension function which kind of does the same but just with items, not midi notes. Could be handy too.

I would use this, for sure. So yeah, if you FR it or find a way to do it easily, I'd be interested.

On it This looks marvelous! Thanks! And it works on MIDI items so its performing a very similar function. Amazing. This is going to save me loads of time - just the delay builder thing is something I do manually by hand copy/pasting, or dragging copy, stretch, reverse. All separate steps. To have the same stuff but with sliders is amazing

Julian Sader's warp scripts are replaced with Multi Tool.

You can achieve the same result as Texture Mode by using JSFX by lewloiwc.
https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...9&postcount=21

Changing or modulating "sample end offset" while playing note results in kinda same result as Simpler method. Be sure to check obey note-offs and loop. Modulating other parameters like pitch, sample start-offset is also fun. Also, I'd recommend that you experiment "Note (Semione shifted) mode" which makes a sample change its loop rate since its playback speed is tied to pitch.

You can change rate in the media explorer and record the sound into the Global Sampler. Experiment "Default pitch shift mode" in the project settings.

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=2506514

Inserting MIDI Arpeggiator into input FX is another method off the top of my head. You can change how rate value parameter works by editing JSFX code directly, but keep in mind that the original file shouold be kept separate from the modded version if you use MIDI Arpeggiator in your project in the past.
