Default Spatial audio podcast

Please feel free to move or remove this if it's not the right thing in the right place.

I've started a podcast called Ultimate Sound Test. I'm using spatial audio to explore immersive sound and talk a bit about what I love about it. It's calm, engaging and about 15 minutes per episode. I'm posting about it here because I use Reaper to create it and would love to discuss anything and everything about the episodes. Please check it out and don't forget to wear headphones...

Incidentally, for those of you with computers hooked up to surround arrays and capable soundcards, YouTube will now deliver a multichannel version of this and rotate the soundfield around the speakers.

Thanks for the interest and support. I've had some actual paying work get in the way (I hate it when that happens ) but I'm already started on the next one. I'm thinking of shortening up the actual talking podcast and then putting panel links to videos with the soundscapes themselves with little or no talking over top. That way the listener can spend as much time as they like in a particular one and I can keep things more succinct. I'll see how that feels for the next episode at any rate.

Nice! I'll try and check it out asap. Been to busy to relax for a few weeks but would be cool to check this out on my 7.1.4 atmos setup.

It has worked well for me on a 5.1 setup so I'm curious to hear what you are getting on the 7.1.4.

There's a new episode up with a new format. It's much shorter but has links in it to the longer uninterrupted sound fields being discussed. For those of you who are listening already, please let me know if you like this format or the former.

UST Podcase - How we get around

Thanks for listening.

How did you record the field sounds? I mean what kind of microphone set up?

Amd also, I'm not sure how to listen to these clips? In 5.1 or in headphones?

I'm mostly using a Coresound Tetramic recorded by a Zoom F6. Some of the older ones are recorded with the same mic on a modified Zoom H2 and a custom gain-matched 4 channel preamp from Naiant.

If you listen on a smartphone with the YouTube app and headphones then you can pan around the sound field. If you have a 5.1 setup connected to a computer then YouTube should decode to discrete front and rear audio feeds.

I don't have a 5.1 playback set up at the moment but a few months ago I had and I never got anything than 2 channel stereo from Firefox on OSX - however that was not your Youtube clips but lot's of other stuff from youtube, netflix etc. Have you got that to work?

You are welcome. I have got Netflix to work with surround audio but regular YouTube does not support discrete surround playback at this time. Spatial audio on YouTube, however, does support a discrete surround decode and I have confirmed it is working on chrome and edge on windows. I assume it will work on Mac as well.

I'll have to check this out when I'm on my studio PC. Mobile browser on my phone doesn't support 3D audio.

Default Season 2 Episode 2

New episode out. What Comes From Above

It's about naturally occurring sounds that are created above our heads. Please have a listen and let me know if you like it.

Also, if you happen to bump into someone who might be interested in our spatial audio podcast, you can share our new YouTube tag, @ultimatesoundtest
