Default Restoring audio tape

I have a 1/4", 1 track audio tape from a reel-to-reel recorder my dad had when he worked on the local radio station.

I recorded the output of the headphone jack. Worked pretty well.

Problem is, the tape itself seems to be severely slowed down and the pitch has shifted considerably. Is this salvageable? I've attached the file here.

Can't you just change the speed of the tape recorder?

Hi Kirk, it's sounds like it might have been recorded a 15ips then played back at 7.5ips, or maybe recorded
at 7.5ips and played back at 3.75ips. At any rate it's half speed I do believe.

Have you still got the tape and the tape recorder? Most tape recorders with record and play at 2 different
speeds.

What you can do is load the audio file into Reaper and then adjust the "Play back rate" up to around 1.75 to
1.80 or so, basically adjust it to where it sounds right to you. It should play back pretty well.

Thanks guys!

The tape machine is one speed only.

The proper playback speed turned out to be 1.85.
