Default Valhalla Delay is out

https://valhalladsp.com/

It sounds very, very good. Just the presets alone are a rich source of fun. I'm buying it for my dialogue mixes.

Go forth and try it for yourself, for Gruds sake.

Yep! Trying hard over on VI-C Forum to get early Adopter /Demo impressions vs EchoBoy, bx-Delay 2500, Replika XT, DDLY, etc.

Luv Valhalla verbs and easy to lurch.

playing with the demo right now.

this is the most fun i've ever had with a delay plugin. Echoboy has been my go-to for years, and already in the past 15 minutes of knob tweaking, I know it has just been replaced.

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLUGIN.

I was skeptical when I tried Freq Echo, but the flat surface makes it much more visible. Great stuff. I'm looking forward to trying this delay.

Spent two hours on the demo last night, going through presets, playing with the controls. Drums, guitars, bass, synths and for me especially dialogue and effects.

The plugin is in its own world with this interface and the endless possibilities it offers that are all visible at a glance.

They're going to add new modes too, similar to Valhalla Room, Vintage Verb and Plate.

Another winner by Sean & co. Worth it for me, so a late night purchase it was.

I was reading that there was an abnormal amount of noise on some of the settings and modes that couldn't be tamed did you notice that?

I know you're asking airon, but since i've gone through this plug extensively last night and this morning, the answer from me is no.

There are some presets that use self-oscillating feedback, so maybe that's what they are referring to? That's the only thing resembling "abnormal amounts of noise", but that's a feature, not a bug.

Nice. I'll have to try the demo and see how it compares to Replika. How's the cpu usage on this?

I haven't tried stacking tons of instances, but so far it seems to be very lightweight, which is right in line with the rest of the Valhalla plugs.

I have replicated as much as I can all the presets in Waves H-Delay , the Basic ones. If some are slightly different they are still very usable IMO.

I wanted to replace it and this one does the job perfectly and more.
I find H-Delay sounds very good and I like the simplicity about it but I wanted to have an alternative to Wave Central.

I will grab this and add to my collection. As far as noise, my assumption is there are various emulations of gear noise for analog stuff. In Valhalla UberMod there's a knob specifically for it and if you don't know it's there it could drive you nuts.

Even though UberMod is primarily modulation, it's also a pretty cool delay.

My pleasure !

The demo is so unrestrictive it's almost the original. A volume drop is about the least disturbing nag you possibly have on a plugin. It actually reset the ears to continue mixing. I'll buy anyways. Bought all the others second hand on KVR but now I want the free(ish) flanger on the site !

I've been using Valhalla UberMod as my general purpose delay plugin, I usually just tweak the 'Basic Tape Echo' preset

I forgot I had shimmer!
I don't have plate though as I thought why would I need a dedicated plate reverb? I'll probably pick it up at some point maybe second hand.

Valhalla just released a small update; v1.0.3v2

* Windows installer now defaults to the standard VST3 folder
* Reduced noise in BBD mode when feedback is turned up (turn Age down to 0% if you want even less noise)

Thank you! I love that Valhalla makes it so easy to share presets.

I bought it today and immediately put it to use in a mix. I was able to get a nice subtle vocal delay.

One of my favorite delays is JS Floaty Delay, and I think there's enough control in Valhalla Delay to get similar results.

This delay is incredible! I've been waiting for it ever since Sean posted the picture of his Roland Space Echo hardware on the Valhalla Twitter page.

You can do anything from standard sorts of delays to super sloshy, indescribably complex globs of analog goodness. REAPER's parameter automation + Valhalla Delay = DEEP possibilities!

10/10!

I actually am still wondering if I should buy this given I already have UberMod, and all the delays that come in REAPER and a few other plugins that can do various kinds of echo/delay.

I am truly over the days of buying a plugin just to have another toy in the toybox. It slows me down more than anything.

Is there something this plugin does that I can't already accomplish using UberMod, JS Floaty Delay, ReaDelay, CocoaDelay, and the delays in Guitar Rig?

This looks awesome but I just broke down and bought Echoboy on sale for $50 last year. Its my goto delay.

I also have H-delay, TKdelay, Replika (lite not XT), Surreal machines Diffuse and the tape delay inside Reelbus. Not to mention killer freebies like ET-301, spaceship delay, freqecho and NastDLA

That pretty much covers the gamut of analog delay madness for me including crazy pitch shifted FX and diffusion FX. Readelay can also do bitcrushed delays.

Valhalla is pushing Echoboy for the delay crown with this release. I wonder if Soundtoys is planning to update its venerable flagship?

Check out the demo. For me the question is can it replace multiple delays while also bringing something unique to the palette faster. If its easy to dial in it can really speed up workflow. The best part about Echoboy is dialing in a basic delay and then scrolling though all the styles to quickly find the vibe you're looking for. GREAT workflow. I never touch the advanced controls. Too fiddly.

The reaper delays arent really that good IMO. There are a alot of better freebies out there.

Unsophisticated Preset Junkie here, and this makes Valhalla Delay even more attractive;
especially 'on sale' !

ReaDelay is great for targeted, simple delays. It takes a lot of work to do more complex stuff. It'll still sit on my delay fx track, preset for outside slapbacks.

Valhalla Delay will sit right after it and on its own fx track (plus a V. Room instance at 0% mix). It's too versatile to use as a delay only.

What this delay has going for it(for me) is sound flavours, modulation and all the little FSU touches while sounding damn fine.

Yea really good sounding plugins. I must be the only one who absolutely hates the Valhalla GUI. Ugly, and cluttered with text. Wish they'd offer some more aesthetic alternatives.

I don't think their GUIs are attractive but they are the most useful guis for me that exist. My eyes find everything I need almost instantly.

For a gui that makes no sense to me everytime I look at it, the award goes to Lasagna Pultec

LOL, I kinda like that GUI. It's only the boost atten controls that were confusing at first and it's way worse for me on the same on any pultec style plug. The best GUI for me is the one Crimson Merry did for Limiter No 6 but I literally cannot find it anywhere on the net now... It's old school with 3d knobs but everything is done very tastefully and not much wasted space.

I finally had a crack at the demo and HOT DAMN! Sounds amazing. GUI is very clear and readable.

I'm comparing it to Waves J37, AR Chambers, Reel ADT, and U-he Satin. Clearly I'm looking for a tape delay that does the Beatles/Pink Floyd doubling, flanging, and phasing stuff. The STEED effect is tough to replicate properly. I just love that sound.

I wasn't able to find any Beatle-specific presets in the Valhalla, but I'm sure there are. Before I drop the $50 (not sure if there's currency exchange breaks), could anyone confirm this for me?
