Nice add.
It would be nice to have this option:
"show gray lane only when media is moved".
Like this, the medias would be a little bit more visible (bigger size) and the GUI more unified (no gray lane visible when we haven't need of it).

"+ Media item lanes: add preference for minimum track height to display lane-add area"
Issue. I have set it to 0 but it's not displayed at this size:

There is an effective minimum of about 3x the height of the lane-add area itself (the help text says this if you hover over the controls in the preference page). It wouldn't make any sense to display only lane-add area, or more lane-add area than normal track area.

I don't think that would be nice because lane add area is the only indication to know when a track has fixed lanes.

Personally, that does not bother me. We can see if a track have fixed media lanes by looking at the height of the items. Plus, when we move any item, gray lanes appears. So we can know which track has fixed media lanes. And it remains an option.

It would be also nice if we had an option to hide take envelopes and stretch markers with track height, so it would be easier to grab the items when they 're small in lanes.

Not always, if a track has fixed lanes and leave it like that, after when you move on with your song, if there's an empty space without items on that track, it's not easy to guess if it has fixed lanes without indication. But now i saw you wrote for an option

i'd like that too.
edit: this could include fades too
edit2: out of topic , maybe could be nice an action for: toggle show/hide take and lane envelopes and stretch markers and faders from project view

Here is a JSFX snippet that works in v6.26, but not in v6.26dev0401 (tested on Win10 x64):
Code:
x = 0x12345678;
y1 = x << 4;
y2 = (x * 16) & 0xFFFFFFFF;
ok = y1 == y2;
Both y1 and y2 should be 0x23456780, but y2 gets assigned -(2^31) instead, I guess because the AND operator handles numbers >= 2^32 differently now.

And here is another one:
Code:
x = 0xFFFFFFFF;
y1 = (x / 2)|0;
y2 = x >> 1;
ok = y1 == y2;
Here y1 is correct i.e. 2^31-1, but y2 gets assigned 2^30, maybe because the right shift operator now clamps x to 2^31 before the shift?
EDIT: Actually this one also doesn't work in v6.26, my bad.
But this one does work in v6.26:
Code:
x1 = 0x7FFFFF2A;
y1 = x1 & 0xFF; // 0x2A
x2 = 0xFFFFFF2A;
y2 = x2 & 0xFF; // 0x2A in v6.26, 0 in v6.26+dev0401
ok = y1 == y2;
EDIT2: FYI: It seems that the recent JSFX changes break these examples in my JSFX pack:
JS: Tale/examples/uint
JS: Tale/examples/window_viewer

The issue is that when the track height is small, we are not able to see if the track is fixed lanes or not.
It would be maybe nice to reduce the height of the gray lane when we reduce the height of TCP?

The new item lane features are great. I think that many of the complaints in threads such as Reaper's take system sucks, but rather than vaguely bitch about it... can be addressed with item lanes.
* I would suggest a new action, "Glue items, keeping lanes separate", that can be applied to multiple lanes simultaneously, so that the user doesn't have to laboriously glue each lane individually. (I am glad to see that even in Free Item Positioning Mode, gluing items that are all in one lane doesn't move the new item to a new lane at the bottom, as it did in previous versions.)
* Unless the intention is for item lanes to completely replace take lanes for comping, it is important to be able to *smartly* implode item lanes into take lanes, as requested in Smarter "Implode into takes".
* I noticed that the lane-add area and automatic arranging into lanes don't work yet when inserting item from the Media Explorer.
