Default M1 Version Question

Anyone know if you can install both the standard Mac and ARM (Apple Silicon) version of Reaper on an M1 Mac without having to do a portable install? If they are two different versions, couldn’t I just drag each version into the applications folder?
New M1 gets here Monday and I’m researching. Thanks!

there are two versions and yes portable install of both works.

Mine looks like this

Applications/REAPER
inside
REAPER64.app
REAPERARM64.app (you have to rename one)
reaper.ini
etc
Both use the same config files, there's a short wait while the plugin list has to reset when you switch apps.

and for extensions, I have both versions in the user plugins folder. ReaPack and SWS have different names for each architecture.

I'm using the intel version most of the time since more plugins are compatible.

But do I have to do them as portable? Being that they are two different versions, wouldn’t they work just as well just installed? Thanks!

hmm yes I think you are right, you can just drop them in Applications folder, but you'll have to rename one of them though. They'll both use the same resources folder.

Thanks! This I’ll be interesting I bought when they came out, but returned because of early functionality/plugin issues. Things are supposed to be better now.

Not much better. I just got an Air M1. I've had lots of issues with beloved plugins. Mostly with Ignite Audio. A lot of older VSTs don't display properly on Retina either, for example GSnap.

You're probably fine with any actively maintained paid software though, as they're under intense pressure to support Silicon.

Thanks. I’ve researched and all but one of mine are "back." I’m just using noise reduction, gate, compression, EQ and a volume meter for podcast. Appreciate it!
