Default Phasing issues in mp3 render

I've noticed that when I render drum recordings to mp3, I get some phase-y sounds in the cymbals. This does not happen when I render to .aiff or other uncompressed formats. I'm using four mics in the Glyn Johns configuration and I'm pretty careful about measuring the placements, so I would think it's not coming from that; plus I would think that it would show up in the uncompressed version anyway(?) Any thoughts?

Sounds pretty typical for a low-bitrate MP3. It's not phasing, but instead the high-end being sharply low-passed.
Try to look at the offending file using SPAN.

What bitrate are you using? There's really no reason to go below 320 kbps these days.
The file will be all but indistinguishable from WAV yet significantly smaller in filesize.

I just realized that it defaults to 128 when you choose mp3. This seems to be the culprit. Many thanks!
