I'd say A is real amp, because to me there seems to be a bit more distortion, which is expected because IRs capture only linear response, no distortion. But if you added more distortion to IR signal, I'm mistaken.
They are really close, I wouldn't mind using either in the mix, I bet it would sound the same in the end.

Hi Sonicowl, I thought they were pretty close too. Although each clip is exactly the same LUFs measurement, they definitely do not phase cancel.
Thanks for responding and sharing your thoughts.

For any who might be interested, here are the results:
A = Impulse Response
B = Real mic’d cab

Cool. Sorry I missed this the first time around.
I guessed right! But I'll admit it was a guess, B just had a little more perceived detail and bass response to me and I was guessing that the live recording would be just a little more whatever. I'd say that your IR gets the essential character for sure, I mean I think you would get more variance by changing mics or even just moving the same mic.
Care to speak to how you made the IR and then used it to make the samples? That's some tasty homebrew far as I'm concerned. I understand there's a free app from Mooer that does this, saw a demo but it was by a studio guy so I figured it wasn't so simple... maybe it is!? Not that I have any epic amps lol, but if I can use other people's just like that...
Thanks!

Hi Fred, thanks for responding... You're quite right, you definitely would get more variance by moving or changing mics!

The process I used was pretty much exactly as is outlined in the videos I posted links to above. The only difference was, I used the power amp of my guitar amp to power the speaker, instead of a "flat response" PA amplifier.
Since I was only interested in creating an IR for my own use (and not one to be used "generally" by everyone), I thought using my own amp's power amp to send the IR through to the speaker would be a better idea. What I wanted to be able to do was to record my signal chain silently, and then re-amp it at a later time when making noise wouldn't be considered bad form by my neighbours.
I was absolutely amazed how incredibly well it worked, so that is why I thought I would share it!
I simple created an IR from a sample of white noise (as outlined in the video - Just use JS plugins White Noise Generator), then sent it out of a hardware send in Reaper, out of my interface (via a Radial Reamp box) and into the power amp input in the fx loop of my amplifier (Mesa Boogie Lone Star Special), then out of the Mesa's speaker jack to my Marshall 1966A 2x12 cab loaded with 25w "Greenback" Celestion speakers. I mic'd the cab right on the grill, in the centre of the cone with a Sure SM57, which I recorded back into my interface (Apollo Twin X Quad). That's it really.
Hope that makes sense!

Yah cool, nothing too exotic there but the boutique amp lol, the MB demo on that is amazing, can you get similar volume knob response with the IR?, And so any IR plugin? Like the Reaper one or the Ignite one etc.? Is it quick enough for live or reamping only?
Again, N1, thanks!

The IR responds very well to live playing - latency is not noticeable for me running my DAW at a buffer of 64 samples. The dynamics and response to volume variations is just like the amp.
I just used the IR loader in Scuffam Amps S-Gear 2 and switch off everything except the cab. I'm sure any other IR loader would work just as well.
