Default Thunderbolt Interfaces on PC - Yea or Nay

I'm in search of lower latency when monitoring with effects. Thunderbolt sounds like a possible solution but its implementation on PC seems less than perfect.

Questions for the experienced:
Are you successfully running a TB interface on PC and, if so, which one(s)?
Are you able to monitor with effects through Reaper with minimal latency?
Does your MB have a TB connector or are you using a PCI card?
What issues should I watch out for?

My MB supposedly supports TB but has no native connector: https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z...MING-EDGE-WIFI

But the mfr offers a TB PCIe card: https://www.msi.com/PC-Component/Thu.../Specification
