Default Mono track with ReaTune rendered as mono file -- is it possible?

Mono tracks (i.e. tracks with only 1 channel items) are usually rendered to mono files, which is what I want. If, however, there is an instance of ReaTune on a (mono) item -- not even on the whole track -- the resulting file becomes stereo. Any way how to force Reaper back to mono mode? I tried fiddling with plugin pin connections, no luck.

P.S. I know the request for true mono tracks is a long standing one...

How about using "apply FX to new take (mono output)" from the dropdown menu when you right click an item.

Item settings> Take channel mode:Mono (downmix).
But domzy's suggestion is quicker.
Quickest is just to glue the item. Works with Reatune, but don't assume will work with all tuning plugins...with WavesTune for example none of the above three methods adtually render the corrected tuning..have to render in real time from the main render panel!

Wow, thanks for the take channel mode advice. Didn't know about that setting. I try not to render things unless I have to. Luckily I don't have Waves but honestly, it's a shame a plugin requires real-time rendering.
