volume slider 'knob' trick

How do I make a png for a volume slider like in this theme: NightWorkerAlpha?





It's actually a 'knob' with a bitmap like so:




How does one easily create this monster png (tcp_vol_knob_stack.png)? This is cut down, but there are something like 100 of them to create the illusion of a 'slider'.

afaiks this is a knobstack pretending -with great succes- to be a fader. You have to Walter something to make it a real fader again

They can be made with an app called 'Knobman'. After exporting from Knobman, you'll need to open in PS or Gimp and add the pink lines etc.

Thanks - didn't know knobman could do this. I can figure out how to walter it etc. Just didnt want to have to create this stack manually!

Thanks - tried it out and got it 'working'.... although the resizing limitations (you cant) may make it more trouble than its worth for me.

If you have photoshop you can also animate the slider moving and automate stacking the pieces together into a final image. I think this is possible in GIMP too, at least the stacking bit anyways. There are other freeware animation tools out there in case knobman is no good (never tried it myself)

With this particular type of slider (I use a lot myself) remember that you want to make the number of frames match the pixel movement when you are rendering from Knobman etc
This stops you have interpolated frames that look horrid


As you can see in my theme here i have created faux LED style bar faders, this is a good example of why you want to match pixels with movement

And as you can see here


A bit of sideways thinking gives you a width slider that goes from the usual White-Left Red-Right to MONO to White-Right Red-Left (Swapped channels)
Very easy to do but visually shows exactly what is happening at a glance
