Reaper now crashing upon startup
Started playing around with Reaper again . last thing I did is that I saved the project to my audio drive.
I tried reaper.exe -new , which launched but it still just crashes upon startup , btw what I mean is that you see the splash screen come on and then it just vanishes , I do not get any exception dialogs etc

Try doing a portable install.
Also check any plugins you are using.
Sometimes a bad plugin will cause a crash at start up.
Remove the plug dll from folder.
Then re-install.

thanks but since it won't start at all I can't see what plugins I was using although I was just playing I don't even recall if I had any plugins setup
I guess Reaper doesn't blacklist plugins ?
Are there any files I can delete ? I tried re-installing but it must be looking at a config location that was not removed during the the uninstall

If you are on windows, go into your start menu and look for the reaper folder. It has an option to open reaper with a blank/new project, which will of course sidestep any plugins in your last project that caused the issues.
Once you get that far, it should be easy to sort out what is crashing reaper (especially if you can generate a crashlog report) and fix it.

Isn't that what " reaper.exe -new" does?

Unfortunately that exhibits the same exact behavior , I had also uninstalled and installed again. It gets past the splash screen it opens the window for a second which is empty and then vanishes without any crash dialog.
Does reaper generate log files I can consult with?

Please do a "Portable Install" (one of the installer options), and install to a new location - ideally not on your C: drive, (so as to not cause version confusion!!). Then run the reaper.exe from that new location.
if that fails, then there's probably some issue with file protections somewhere …
Hope this helps,

I should note that I am playing with the evaluation version and that dialog was the first thing that would pop up, I’ll hwve to test the portable install tomorrow

The evaluation version is exactly the same as the "paid for" version. Just that after the initial "trial" period you'll get a 5 second "nag screen" to encourage you to buy it.
There are no restrictions at all or any differences. Kudos to Justin for this model.
Let us know how you get on with your 2nd install (a portable one!).
