Default Reaper Arm distorting at low latency - worse than intel

Hello all,

I have noticed that Superior Drummer 3 runs better not he intel version of Reaper versus the ARM version, when using my M1 Mac mini. For some reason, I can lower the latency down further on the intel version (to 64 ms) before sounds become distorted. On the ARM version, I can only lower the latency to 128 ms before I hear unwanted distortion on SD3 - indicating I pushed the latency limits too low.

I would have thought the opposite. I was expecting SD3 to run better in the ARM version of Reaper, allowing me to further reduce the latency before I bump into issues. Does anyone know why SD3 can be set to a lower latency in the intel version of Reaper versus ARM? Any other ARM users experiencing this issue?

I do realize the ARM version is beta but do not see any notes about this particular issue.

128 buffer is quite low. What's the problem?

Great question that I should have clarified. I am primarily a drummer and have to track live using an e-kit. I swear I feel a minute amount of lag at 128. Do you think I am perhaps too sensitive or its in my head? I'd love for 128 to be acceptable for live e-kit recording.

If you notice latency at 128 think about upgrading your audio device. Which is what, btw? For reference, my rount-trip latency is 7ms at 128 (RME 9652). Do you see that info in the top right of reaper? Adding the two values gets you RT latency.

Right click the menu bar on the right side to enable audio device info if it isn't there.

If it's a VST3 instance then reaper isnt supporting VST3 bridging for ARM yet. So in these cases the inter version will be better as far as I know.

Thanks for the tip regarding RT latency. I had no idea. I just bought a 3rd generation Focusrite Scarlett which I plug my Roland module into.

Roland drums -> Roland module -> 3rd generation Scarlett -> Mac M1 16 gigs ram.

Just to confirm, you're running the native M1 ARM build on version 3.2.5?

"The About dialog says “64-bit ARM” (instead of “64-bit Intel”) when running in native Apple silicon mode."
