Faderport 1 and Keylabs Essential Control advice

Hello all,
I'm looking for some advice and help.
I've recently bought a second hand Faderport 1, the original and also a new Arturia Keylabs Essential 49. I've worked out the basics of using either of them for automating volume and pan, changing tracks, arming, stop, pause etc.

Can I configure either of them somehow for automating plugins for EQ, reverb work, or whatever the plugin? This is where I am out of my depth. I'm aware of a much-appreciated thread here https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=170036 from four years ago. The trouble is, I don't understand it.

If anyone can point me in the direction of some not-too complicated help, I'd appreciate it.
