Default Audible Beeps On 2019 IMAC Pro During Playback

I recently purchased a 2019 iMac pro. The computer is running Mojve 10.14.6.
I downloaded REAPER OSx v593/64 bit.
The issue I'm experiencing is beeping in quiet spaces during playback.
For example, if I record myself counting from one to ten, I don't hear any beeps during the recording. Once I play the track back I hear an audible beep in the quiet spaces in between my voice. The beeps are during playback only.

I also have an older (2016) MacBook Pro running the same version of Mojve 10.14.6. as well as the same version of REAPER (5.983/64). I don't experience any beeping during playback with the MacBook.

I was wondering if anyone else here might using the 2019 iMac pro and having the same issue. Very frustrating to say the least.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Some plugin in demo mode that's on the iMac, but not on the MB Pro?

Sorry for not stating in the original post that I opened a new project with one track and no plugins.
I just discovered Something else while trying a few more things. If I move the track and master sliders to full volume the beeping stops. I do however, get one last beep when I hit the stop on the transport or spacebar.

I'm flabbergasted...

AFAIK, there's nothing in Reaper that beeps.

I know me too. I’m upgrading to Catalina right now. I should have added that I’m using the Presonus Fire Studio interface. Wonder if that could be a possibility?
Thanks for helping.

cyrano, I did more a lot more testing. Let me throw some bullets down:

ISSUE:

Hearing audible beeps in silent sections of track during playback.

. Computer #1, 2019 iMac Pro
. Updated OSX to Catalina (had same issue with Mojave)
. Re-Installed REAPER
. UAD-2 accelerator not plugged in
. Presonus Fire Studio audio interface not plugged in
. Mac sound effects off
. REAPER Open with one track
. Using a USB mic to enable an input signal
. Recorded a short ten second sound clip
. source material is my vocal counting one to ten with quiet spaced between recorded media
. Playback, Beeps are heard in the quiet spaces between me counting and one last beep on stop
. Note #1, If I move the track slider all the way up, the beeps are reduced to a click/pop, but still get one beep on stop
. Note #2, if the source material is a constant source, then there are no beeps during playback except for one beep when you click on the stop button or hit the spacebar to stop the track.

. Computer #2, 2016 MacBook Pro
. Updated OSX to from Mojave to Catalina
. No issues with Sierra, Mojave or Catalina
. All peripherals work as intended

Like I said earlier I bought the iMac Pro last week the day it hit the Apple store here in NH.
Given the price point of this computer I don't think there was a rush for REAPER users to make a run for this machine.

Would you be kind enough to steer me in the right direction to see if the Devs are aware of any issues with compatibility with the new iMac Pro and REAPER?

I would like know if anyone else is seeing the same issue.

Tnx RJR

I've only installed iMac Pro's on one occasion. A pair of them and we had to exchange one of them. It showed intermittent dropouts while recording.

Is the beep randomly intermittent? In that case, I'd bet there's something wrong with the hardware.

Is it regular? I'd gamble it's got something to do with the UAD. But I don't have any recent experience with those.

I don't think Reaper has anything to do with it. Could you try other software to record? Audacity is out, as it is a 32 bit app. And Catalina no longer runs 32 bit apps.

We can rule out interfaces, as it happens with the Presonus as well as with a USB mic.

This is a bit confusing, if you have all other sound devices disconnected, you play the audio out via the internal sound chip, right? The effect you described sounds like a faulty chip then, but it shouldn't come up when you use your Presonus interface as a playback device on the new computer.

Ollie, Cyrano,
The beeps happen when the source material stops so it’s not random or intermittent. I will post a sound bite to show a few examples.
The beeping is present whether I use the internal speakers or audio interface. Doesn’t matter what playback device is selected.
I did discover that if I move the faders for the track and master up the beeps turn to clicks and pops. Once I turn them up to full the beeps, clicks and pops all but disappear. I do still get a solid beep once the stop button is clicked.
I’m suspicious of the computer because I don’t have the issue with my MB pro running the same version OS X Catalina and REAPER.
I chose to step up to this computer (5K) because of the processor.
Sounds like I’m the only person experiencing this problem.
I was hoping to hear back from the devs before I return the computer to say it’s not a app issue.
Thank for responding.

Some clips or a video could help indeed. One of the important questions would be "is the noise on the recorded file itself or only happening during playback?". Does that happen when you play the same file on iTunes/VLC/whatever?

Also make sure you don't have any active plug-in in the Monitoring FX chain (View->Monitoring FX).

Ollie, check this out. What the hell is this? I checked FX Monitoring and this is what came up checked:
AU: AURoger Beep (Apple) checked.

I unchecked and removed. Problem solved. Why that was there is beyond me.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to help.

Cyrano, same to you as well. You guys are awesome for helping.
