Default MIDI controller stops responding mid session....

I am using an M-AUDIO AIR 192/4 with an AKAI PROFESSIONAL MPK 249 midi controller into my HP Probook Laptop. The controller will randomly stop responding mid-session and the only thing that seems to get it back on line is a full computer restart. Any idea why this is happening?

Your settings, screenshots, any more detailed info?

You could try virtual midi ports, routing both devices, or 100 devices, to same midi port, activating this single midi port as input for reaper. Disable all outputs first, as a testing scenario. See what will change. After solving the situation using only input midi ports (no output midi ports activated), you can check how to activate output midi ports as well, correctly, meaning without creating feedback looping scenarios. Good luck my friend.

Hey thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately I'm a novice user and I'm not certain how to go about doing most of those things. What screen shots, settings, or info would be helpful to know in this situation? When the controller stops working there is no error window that pops up or anything...
