a bit better, but not much. definitely the most critical thing to fix rather than fannying about with the "mix"

Quite honestly I listened to version 2 and it was hard to find fault with. It had energy. Yes it could have been tighter but the more you mess with it the more energy gets sucked out of your original idea.
I would say to OP to follow their gut........if you have 2 jobs and children then even producing this is an achievement! Keep going

you do not know how to program drum beats, it's all wrong. No band could play this song live as it is.No bassist would play along to this drumming.

After 3 weeks, I don't remember what the original or intermediate mixes sounded like.
Can you please not overwrite the links?
Sounds like you fixed the timing issues, so good job on that. The new part at 0:31 needs to be better incorporated. The tone doesn't work.
I keep wanting to hear the part at 0:45 be more staccato like this:

Ok. If you wouldn't want to play along with it, that's one thing and fine to feel that way. But there's nothing "wrong" technically. Everything is in time.

I'm gutted that the song has been removed!
'All the beats are wrong'
'Nobody would play like that'
'The snare is in the wrong place'
This sounds EXACTLY like my sort of music! Bring it back! I want to hear it!

this is blatantly untrue & a pretty silly thing to say.
i think the newer version is greatly improved, though it could still do with tightening up more, in my opinion.

I just came home from a very long day and listened to this on my crappy laptop speakers. That is not ideal. I have two comments, and I am disregarding the song and performance here.
I think the balance between the tracks translated nicely to my laptop computers. I would turn the cymbals down a tad, leaving more room, hopefully, to tame the mix overall with some light compression or limiting.
At first I felt there was too much treble overall, but I calibrated with another trebly album I like -- Ghost of Perdition by Opeth -- and felt a slightly different interpretation was necessary. The mix still feels too trebly to me, but it's not necessarily by a lot. My speakers must take some of the blame. I think, and this likely comes down to taste, you could take the edge of the drums and guitars a bit as they're both trying to be extremely present. It may be so simple as to back a bit away from hard rock / metal land on the drumkit, and more towards classic rock and it may be so simple as to reduce the highs on the buss with some EQ. You may also try to reduce the velocity on the drumkit to soften it some. If you haven't already, try to A/B your mix with another instrumental you like from the same genre. That should help you move a tad closer I think.
But who am I to say? I'm just a hobbyist on a laptop. :-)
EDIT: Interesting to listen again from monitors. Mix sounds even less sharp, but all instruments still seem to want to be in my face in comparison to Ghost of Perdition or Blackwater Park (which I resorted to in this case). I guess what I am trying to say, is that this is sort of attention overload for me. YMMV; what do others think?

Come on man, you know as well as the rest of us that people ask for constructive advice, not just something tantamount to 'its all wrong in every way'
OP is just trying to have a good time, all the time, yeah?
