All right. Just to clarify, it shuts down ok if you manually disable the plugin before shutting down REAPER?

Reaper crashes, when it's installed and loaded properly.
As soon as I rename the plugin, before I start Reaper, exiting Reaper works fine.

That's why I think, it's ReaBlink, as the crash happens only, when ReaBlink is loaded by Reaper.

https://github.com/ak5k/reablink/rel...static-ref.zip does this work better?

EDIT: I can guarantee it has to be ReaBlink causing the crash.

Ok. Does it 'work' in a sense, that running ReaBlink_Monitor.lua doesn't instantly crash REAPER, and monitor shows some meaningful information like the metronome running etc?

EDIT: https://github.com/ak5k/reablink/rel...k-w64-asdf.zip does this work?

EDIT2: Tested with Windows 7 x64, but so far I've been unable to reproduce the problem.

I haven't tested any scripts yet, as I have no Ableton in the first place.
Could this be a potential problem, that the extension expects Ableton to be there?
(just wild guessing here. Will try your update later...)

ReaBlink doesn't require Ableton Live, or any other Link supported software, to be present in the network. It also works just between REAPERs, or functions as standalone, if no other peers are present in network. It's network based 'musical sync' protocol, which can also sync different software running on same host. Googling around suggested that type of crash might have something to do with DEP or antivirus on Windows 7, but those were ancient posts. Probably it's some error in my programming.

I was waiting for this for a long time. Thank you

I spent like 1 hour playing with ReaBlink, Most of the stuff is working nicely here except glitches when I start the song.

Hi! Nice to hear you've managed to put it in use. If you followed quick start guide and have been using 'out-of-the-box' operation, then start response will depend on your computer and REAPER settings in relation project 'heaviness'. If start is clean in near empty project, then it should be functioning correctly, and it's a matter of optimizing your computer and REAPER settings for as 'snappy' response as possible.

Ok, I have finally tested it, but it still crashes somehow...

Maybe it's a good idea to ask some of the C++-gurus in the "How so I - extension developer thread", maybe they have an idea where to look for:

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=19881

Edit:
Wait...the latest 0.4.0 isn't crashing anymore. Whatever you did, you solved it somehow \o/

Great! I stole studied how ReaPack imports REAPER functions, and also added brute global variable check for shutdown; "if Link hasn't been used, then dont try to disable it".

That's what I meant with "ask the c++ gurus".
Well...more or less

It's great, that it's more stable now. Maybe this solved other edgecases during Reaper exit too.

Hy

Im pretty new to this syncing stuff but i tried to make it work

i've put the dll into user plugins, then installed the custom actions.

I sent midi clock output from ableton (with a bome midi translator port) into reaper

then enabled ableton link.

--
when i start the scrript with the "toggle enabled" action Reaper gets the bpm from ableton and i even able to start both programs timeline if i press the spacebar

however when i press the space again Reaper crashes and quit.

What am I doing wrong?

(windows 10 -64 with latest reaper realese)

Thank you for the answers =)

Can you copy n paste the crash message?

@en5ca
Is there a way to install it via ReaPack?

Hi!

You shouldn't be doing any syncing or transport control with MIDI at all, between Ableton Live and REAPER. Link protocol is used to replace MIDI sync. It sounds like you're syncing Ableton Live and REAPER with Link, and then also slaving REAPER to Ableton Live with MIDI. If so, drop the MIDI sync between Live and REAPER. Link operates via ethernet/WLAN, so instead of MIDI, make sure you have a working network connection between the computers.

When using Link, you can still send other MIDI messages between host software/computers (e.g. Live/REAPER), and sync other 'downstream' external hardware etc via MIDI to host software/computers.

Following this guide should get you started. Note: After succesful installation (v0.4.0), simply opening ReaBlink Monitor in REAPER should be enough to get REAPER to sync with Link session. No need to use other example scripts.

Link and MIDI syncing somewhat contradict each other, e.g. in Ableton Live when Link is enabled, external MIDI sync gets disabled globally. ReaBlink extension doesn't do this in REAPER, so it's up to the user to make sure REAPER isn't synced to any external MIDI source. As stated before, you can still sync/slave other hardware etc to Live/REAPER with MIDI.

So, in short, remove MIDI sync between Ableton Live and REAPER, and just open ReaBlink Monitor script in REAPER to enable Link syncing. Also, even though it's technically possible, I don't recommend running different DAWs on same computer with shared access/3rd party wrapper drivers to audio hardware, and trying to sync them with Link.

In general, in Link sessions, sync everything (at least computers/DAW software) only with Link. Then, sync your downstream external hardware (synths, sequencers etc) to your computer with MIDI, if necessary. If you have external hardware that supports Link, then use Link to sync it, and MIDI to control it, if necessary. And in any case, you can use MIDI for controlling etc.

Not currently. At some point I might upload it to ReaPack.

Ok, great! You might want to look into how Ableton Live works with Link in timeline mode/view, as that's how ReaBlink attempts to work 'out-of-the-box' with REAPER after opening ReaBlink Monitor. Of course, you can continue using Ableton Live, or any other Link supported hardware/software, as you see fit when synced with REAPER running ReaBlink.
