Default Playback issues with Reaper and MOTU 8Pre USB

Hello!
I have searched for the topic and found similar helpful topics, but not what I'm looking for.

I am not getting any playback into head phones. I can record a track (guitar) and see that it is there, as well as hear it while setting levels and recording, but no playback. I have tried reinstalling drivers, and also been on the phone with MOTU (killer tech support) and would like to see if any one here has a suggestion. I have also checked that my unit is selected in Preferences....

I am using iMac, El Capitan OS X 10.11.3 , 12 GB

Thanks you so much for any help or guidance!

Can you hear anything in your headphones when you play a song in iTunes?

Nope, that was one of the things the MOTU folks had me check as well.

You probably tried a PRAM reset too?

Did it work before the 10.11.3 update?

Thanks cyrano, I hadn't reset the PRAM, but just did. Its still behaving the same. It was also behaving like this before i did the El Capitan update.

Ok, new information.

Without Reaper open, i started the Motu software up and got itunes through my headphones. THEN as soon as i opened Reaper, my headphones sound stopped.

So i quit Reaper, but still no sound. So i restart my MOTU 8 pre unit, and iTunes comes back through my headphones.

Hopefully thats not to confusing. I appreciate any pointers!!!!

I know this is a 3 year old thread so my apologies...I stumbled across this in researching the MOTU 8pre usb (I am thinking about buying one used).

It sounds to me like the main channel from the reaper mixer is not sending to the main outputs of the device.

Did this issue ever get resolved? I will continue to dig in any case, to see if it is the right unit for a reaper DAW setup.
