Default Intermittently Distorted Audio

I'm using the default ASIO drivers for my m-audio USB pre
For no apparent reason, the audio will slow down a bunch and sound like it's being run through a vocoder and distortion unit .. hehe

not sure what that's all about, but usually if I minimize the reaper window and then go back into it, the problem corrects itself. The problem, for whatever reason, seemed to be magnified after I used the silence remover on a track.

I noticed the distorted audio audio stuff of version 1.03, but didn't think to report it ...

what is it USB implementation that could cause this issue ... and what the heck is USB implementation anyway? lol

What I mean is ... could it be a driver thing, a "too much USB bandwidth being taken up at once" thing, or a "dell sucks, get something else" thing? :P

Peace

Ok, just realized that it specifically happens as music is playing and I select a different part of the project. Instead of jumping there, buffering, and playing it jumps there, and then simply goes all crazy.
