Default Dual Core Issues Reloaded

Alright, lads, got an update or rather a thorough examination of my dual core trouble. Athlon 64 X2 3800+, WinXP SP2

I got an average project loaded with fx (yes, there are dx-fx and yes, there are waves-dx-fx, which i think should not be a problem with a descent host).

Settings:

So i got my project running. Crackling like hell, sound is actually slower, using one core, see for yourself...

As i arm one channel (any channel) for record the crackling stops, both cores are used about equally.

As I Stop the playback, one core drops to 0 again, the other one to max and well see for yourself...

I hope this "arm for record" stuff gives you some useful information to fix this thing!

Hi Till,

Hey, have you tried running the AMD processor driver and/or AMD Dual-Core Optimizer found here:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...1_9706,00.html

I had been experiencing some flakey processor stuff in a couple of apps, but the optimizer cleared up all the problems I was experiencing. Before running the dual-core optimizer (or any of the AMD processor utilities) be sure to read the descriptions thoroughly, backup all your data, and prepare for the worst, because any kind of updates such as these may really help your system out ...or they may render it dead. Be prepared for either result.

this is obviously some kind of minor coding error, cuz it works as soon as i arm one channel for record...

I've just done a complete uninstall /reinstall of Reaper following some Core 2 Duo problems (imbalance of processor use) and it seems better for it.

But I'm noticing that having the master track displayed when recording is enabled is causing a significant increase in processor use, compared with version 1.20. I'll be mentioning that elsewhere.

they work fine, thank you very much. <i>When I Arm One Channel For Record</b>. why does everybody keep fixating on other stuff? this is the most obvious clue, isn't it?

If anything record arming tracks makes smp less used.. this is odd, and I haven't been able to duplicate.. :/

The fix in the current alpha of the "master channel" problem certainly makes a radical change in CPU load here - don't know whether this will sort the general CPU problem discussed in this topic.
