Default Can't get H.264 (SOLVED)

Would you guys know why I don't have the option to choose "VIDEO H.264"?

As you can see, down near the bottom, it only gives me 2 options, "MJPEG" or "NONE".

Because of that, I also can't change the bit rate to H.264.

I'm pretty sure I have to download a CODEC Of some kind, but I have no idea what or where.

When I watch something that was downloaded from my phone, it looks great. When I put it in REAPER and render, the quality diminishes quite a bit. I don't know what settings I have that are doing that.

Thanx.

Sorry Max. I just saw this now. I can't remember what installer, but I know it was the right one. Someone said not to download the most recent and provided the proper version...or something. I really can't remember which one it was. Sorry.

That sounds like ffmpeg. Reaper is fussy about which version it will work with although the devs regularly update the recommended version.

Default VLC Player

I have the VLc player installed on my computer, every computer since ever.
in the Reaper preferences Video the vlc is selected as codec.
In the Render window everything is available, MP4 video with H.264...

Me too. I've had VLC on every computer as far back as I can remember. I still had to download something (a Codec?) to get H. 264

VLC isn't used for encoding, only for decoding.
