Default Distortion/Buzz Issues After Recording

1. I record a guitar track (no Fx, all other tracks muted), then stop, save the audio files, then disarm the track.
2. Then when I play the track back there is a distortion/buzz sound overlaying the sound recorded.
3. Then I have found that if I exit Reaper, and re-start it, and play the track I hear the correct sound, i.e. what I recorded without the distortion/buzzing.
4. The distortion/buzz is not recorded to the track.
5. This happens ever time I record a track.

Any thoughts on what might cause this?

PC is a Pentium 4/3GHz, with 1 GB RAM. Audio interface is Alesis IO/2 USB, using ASIO drivers, quitar connected via instrument cable.

Reaper version 1.24.

Tried 1.27, still get the buzz. Result of some more experiments is that I get the buzz if I record with any FX applied, appears to be ok when there's no FX involved.

Jesusonic - Guitar\Distortion. After recording stop there's a little bit of residual distortion on the Left Master channel, ranging between -55 and -60.

If I continue to monitor any futher playing will have the buzz overlaying on it. It's like maybe the left channel has become even more sensitive after recording something.

Exit from Reaper, re-open Reaper, and it's gone when I play it back.

I also tried Jeusonic - Delay/Delay and that was fine with no distortion.
