Default Shitbox Monitors..whatcha using?

I'm interested in hearing what others are using as secondary shitboxes..I got a set of these on freecycle and they do a great job..if a mix sounds good through these it translates well I find..but I'm looking to acquire more..hence the thread.

I dumpstered this small, odd display (like this one). It has speakers - 1/8 stereo input. It handles my windows sounds and is another reference. Basically it sounds as good(bad) as a laptop - plus it displays my Plug in GUI's! Sweet! lol

Wait...

Why is there a small sword behind the monitor in this picture?

Are you daft? They didn't have wallpaper like that in the 17th century!!!! Besides they were still using CRT's back then!!!

Maybe it's not a small sword, but a large letter opener - for e-mails.

If I had to decide if I'd rather have read this post, or the "why do your recordings sound like ass" thread, it would be a tough call.

iPod ear buds are invaluable for testing mixes - that's what most people will be listening to.

Other than that I have a Sony CMT DC1 home stereo system and I also use my car.

I try and get my mixes sounding great on all of these.

This is the point;my earlier post refers to a pair of generic pc speakers(chinese i think)that i had to resort to cos i was running a 70s Sansui stereo head thru 2 Bose boxes (those 4x4 things)as monitor but the amp blew so i dug out those plastic spkrs and have been using them and i got used to it relative to pro recordings, soon i will post some audio that reinforces in some way the view 'honour necessity, honour sufficiency' Everything else is just substitution imo,and it aint about means,i can run my old system no prob but i cant be bothered till i finish this project chill
