Default software synths

I might get a 100$ 49 key midi controller from Nektar or Alesis. How do I integrate this thru my USB interface(has MIDI in/out)? I want to use the free software synths that are available and work with Reaper and Cubase AI.
How do I rig the whole thing up??

The Nektar if you use it for midi only will work with Reaper just
by plugging into a usb port.
I have just purchased one I will look at the integration with Reaper
at a later stage as for the moment I just want to use it as a midi controller
to use with BFD3, SSD, Omnisphere, Diva etc etc.
Seems very good the criticism over the keyboard you hear is way over the top.
The feel of the keyboard is way better than what you could expect from looking at the price.

Yes, watch Kenny's videos. Especially "MIDI controller" or midi keyboard-related.

You plug it in via USB (no need for standard MIDI cables). It comes with a USB cable. Then, you go into Reaper's Preferences, and the DEVICE / MIDI section. Enable Nektar for the Input, plus Control.

Then, insert your fave free plugin on a Reaper track.

Then, enable input monitoring (the green PLAY icon on the track). Then, enable the track for midi input (change to INPUT / MIDI / All Channels, or "Midi Channel 1"

Then, arm the track.

Play to your heart's content.

I have a Nektar Impact LX25+ and it worked in Reaper with very little effort. I think I might have gone on their site though and downloaded something for mapping controls within Reaper though, but if so, it was a very easy process. I really recommend their keyboards though. I had an older model M-audio Axiom 49 before, but I sold that, and ended up buying the Nektar, and I absolutely love it. Perfect size for what I do too, as I can tuck it under my monitor stand when not in use. The value for the price is also very surprising. Great keyboards, but won't break the bank.

Actually here is what I followed to set things up in Reaper (from Nektar's website): http://support.nektartech.com/s.nl/c....f?category=26
